According to a 7:42 p.m. police dispatch report, a one-eyed, black female carrying a blue backpack, pulled a knife on a woman outside a Subway sandwich shop at Broadway and Monstrose.
However, the closest Subway restaurant in the area, that we know of, is at 4556 North Magnolia Avenue, near Magnolia and Wilson.
After the assault, the knife-wielding bandit fled in an unspecified direction, through a near by alley, said police.
A responding officer said the suspect’s description matched a known “police fighter” named Carla Price.
An unconfirmed source said the offender fled the scene on a southbound Red Line train.
There is a Subway in the Wilson Yard building at Montrose and Broadway.

Coincidently, her position allows her to see right into the 7/11 cashier area, presumably to see how much money customers are receiving as change....

ReplyDeletePlease continue monitoring the situation around Center on Halsted. I love the Center but hate the daily drama just walking on the sidewalk past the place. They really need surveillance cameras on the outside of the building, and the city should add a camera tower at that intersection. I see the same problems every year when the weather warms up and when something happens, I want it to be on videotape.

Any reasonable, intelligent person would prefer to eliminate the source of the problem. They need to be shut down! A logical person prefers solutions instead of something that is just "a good start".
By your own admission the Center has a responsibility to the surrounding community. A responsibility they have repeatedly failed to fulfill. Unlike the proprietors and patrons of the COH, I dont believe in unlimited 2nd chances... I dont think the neighborhood weve worked so hard to build should be brought down by people with no self respect or worth in society.
The needs of the few do not outweigh the needs of the many.
COH draws vagrants and general POS humans to an area where they dont belong.
Solution = close the COH and the amount of undesirables will decrease as they have no reason to be here in the first place.

@6:34, good luck with your "smart" solution of closing down Center on Halsted. Since you have no ability to do so, you should stick to more reasonable and actionable approaches to addressing the problems. Video is one of the best ways to publicize the problems, identify the perpetrators and antagonists and put them on blast (expel them from CoH for one thing). I already have several videos from last summer that partially illustrate the problems.

Some of us are actually addressing the problems with proactive methods on the street and looking out for each other that way. I don't stand out around videotaping people. I see things happening while I am in the area and try to get it on camera so that others can see what residents are experiencing. If more of these incidents of acting out would be caught on camera, it would go a long way to getting the actual instigators to be held responsible.

People who know me know I have zero issues with a diverse community. There is however little diversity at the COH. Nope, their pretty much ALL losers. @11:09, I am an East Lakeview resident, not a patron of the CoH, nor am I gay. I am sympathetic to anyone being bullied and stand by ground against the bullies. If the youth around CoH bully you, I will do whatever I can to assist you and hold the perps accountable. Likewise, if you want to bully the youth around the CoH who are not causing problems, then I will defend them against you. I have no long-term investment in this community and would like to see simple, practical and obvious steps taken to dealing with any troublemakers around CoH and that's to put them on surveillance cameras where they can be held accountable for whatever actions they take.

We can then use that video to send the perps into the justice system. We all know how effective of a deterrent that is right? Especially for the people going to COH who have almost nothing left to lose anyways... Plus with jail overcrowding you hafta practically murder someone in front of the courthouse to do more than a night or two before you're released. And do you really think they'll pay any fines?

That intersection (Waveland/Halsted) used to be known for male prostitutes working the night shift and the Midnight Mission truck (or whatever it was called) parked nearby trying to get them off the street. The stretch of Belmont from Sheffield to Broadway is infinitely worse than Waveland and Halsted as far as problems with transient youth and it has always been that way. Uptown is far worse too and both of those neighborhoods are within your "five-block" radius that you proclaim has been poisoned by the CoH. Wrigley Field is also a magnet for hustlers and trouble-makers and it predates the CoH and is within five blocks. I am very close to BANNING you from living in and using ANY AND ALL businesses and services of MY neighborhood, not just the CoH and Whole Foods. MY neighborhood does not tolerate crime or racism in any form.

I want you to know that I can and do sympathize with you. When I was a child and someone told me something I didnt understand or didnt like, I mightve called them a name too.
Again, you do not know your own neighborhood very well. Every year when the weather warms up, there is an influx of TRANSIENT YOUTH to this area who do not have a permanent place to stay in Chicago and essentially live on the streets, crash on couches, or if they have a hustle, maybe they can get room overnight at a dump hotel. As I said before, the vicinity of Belmont/Clark is far worse in this regard than the intersection at Waveland/Halsted. The youth visitors that loiter around the CoH are not necessarily transient youth, but when it gets closer to summer, the transients (of all colors) will show up and add to the problems.

The Center is held up as a model across the nation as a non-profit partnering with for-profits to create a self-sustaining community center that benefits everyone. The video gets incidents on camera documenting who started the confrontation and who had legitimate ground to stand in self-defense.
