Julius Campbell: Missing, murdered teen may be victim of gay hate crime

On April 12, 2013, 14-year-old Julius "Jay" Campbell's body was pulled from a lagoon in Marquette Park, 6743 South Kedzie Avenue... Chicago News Report has a hunch about what really happened.

Campbell, a student at Gage Park High School, 5630 South Rockwell Street, was last heard from in mid-March.

Citing the results of Campbell's autopsy, the 14-year-old boy died from multiple stab wounds.

Although authorities have not mentioned a motive for the crime, an obvious theory is that Campbell was involved in drug or gang activity.... we do not believe that was the case.

If the Gage Park High School student was involved in illegal or questionable activity, it's well hidden, because Chicago News Report couldn't find a single piece of dirt on the slain teen.

CNR believes Campbell, who also went by the nickname, Monte, was the victim of a gay hate crime.

While we have no proof the 14-year-old murder victim was gay... we do know Campbell's body was found in an area where gay men and down low thugs, frequently cruise for sex.

We also know that over the past several decades, black gay men have been murdered and dumped in Chicago Park District lagoons, on many occasions.

In the 80s, at least two bodies were pulled from the Jackson Park lagoon in the Wooded Island area.

One of the two bodies was discovered floating in the water behind the Museum of Science and Industry.

And it's not just the location of Campbell's body that leads us to believe this was a gay hate crime... the way the 14-year-old boy was murdered is another clue.

Campbell was stabbed multiple times, which suggest his killer was enraged.

As someone who has studied hate crimes and criminal profiling... gay men are more likely to be stabbed to death, than shot.

Murderers who target gay men usually take a more personal approach to snuffing out their victims, because the act of mutilation is more satisfying to them.

If authorities haven't already done so, they need to check every computer Campbell had access to... we believe the 14-year-old met his killer online and was lured to Marquette Park.
