The apparent murder occurred around 5 a.m. inside the Wilson Yard Apartments at 1026 West Montrose Avenue; which is maintained by the Holsten Real Estate Development Corporation.
Although the motive for the shooting is unclear, several news sources said a man with facial lacerations was found outside the apartment were the shooting occurred.
Chicago News Report spoke with Marcel Rey, a stylist at Nappy Headz and he said Holmes was a "very fine person".
Yesterday, Holmes hosted a birthday party for Marcel and she appeared to be in good spirits.
CNR asked Marcel if Holmes ever complained of domestic issues involving a current or former boyfriend and he said, "no".
When we inquired if the salon was going to stay in business, Marcelle said, "we are just trying to get through this tragic event."
While it's being reported that Yolanda Holmes was the owner of Nappy Headz, online business records indicate Holmes' sister, Yunea Holmes, is the sole proprietor.
It's about time blogger here cleaned this dump up and cracked down on racism and bigotry in the comments section. I look forward to reading your reports without all the extra garbage in the comments.

Salon name may be dumb but she looks like a nice person. Not surprised that it happened in a Holsten building. He has a track record of lousy management like at 1124 Rosemont and another just sold in the 5700 block of Winthrop.
ReplyDeleteHolsten's company will rent a whole floor to a social service agency and they move their clients in and out. We were told at CAPS that there isn't even a record at the management office of who lives in an apartment because the lease is to the social service agency.
I knew her personally...all of my life. The salon is upscale. Really, when you are priviledged to be apart of a family,or culture group you can say or do things other people cannot. Hence, we can say nappy head all day. It's really sad that people can defame folks they don't know, even the dead. Heaven help us.

Please stop making derogatory references about the name of the hair salon. Nappy refers to African american hair in its natural state. If You are White,chances are you know nothing about this. The name of the salon is what prompted me to call and schedule an appointment several years ago.
ReplyDeleteYolanda Holmes was my cousin and I think it's very rude and disrespectful to assume my cousin had any relates with drugs and also to insult a business that she started from the ground up with her own money, her salon has been going strong for 16yrs. My cousin was respected and loved throughout her community. So before you comment on a situtation you don't even know think first.

After so many years of US meaning ‘’all’’ being oppressed and the oppressors in different ways we still find time to hurt one another. Hello it doesn’t matter who spelled what correctly or the name of her salon .Yet you still managed to understand the message that her loved ones are conveying. This is a lost and let this family grieve and let this child of God rest. The point is a lovely person with the warmest eyes and golden smile and a heart of gold is gone. None of us walking this earth have the right to take the life of anyone else. We are all precious beautiful people, we know what love and pain is and feels like. Those of you who have been here to slander the name of Yolanda or anyone else here should be ashamed. What kind of example are you setting for your community and children? The point is a mother , sister , friend, and co-worker named Yolanda Holmes is no longer living . We lose touch with our humanistic ways that we don’t slow down to really think , a person who once smiled, laughed, and loved wont be there to wave hello every time you passed her salon. For those of you who have had so much negative things to say remember you will hurt and grieve when you lose a loved one. Just remember the hurtful words you posted . And when that moment comes pray hard and I mean extra hard not for your family or for forgiveness from others and God but for you to forgive yourself for your misconduct. For those of us who knew and loved Yolanda she was a peacemaker and for that, I apologize to the family on behalf of ignorance. ReplyDeleteA good source told me that Yolanda was murdered by her son Quamaine Wilson and Marcel Ray; (the barber at Nappy Headz). They did not carry out the murder themselves, but they orchestrated it. Quamayne, which is her son was on his way over to pick up some money and according to what i heard; he had called her and told her he was on his way and so when the knock came at the door; she thought it was him and opened the door. She either made a mistake and did not ask who it was or she did, and saw a family member or someone related to Quamaine and thought it was OK to open the door. This is where the story gets interesting, it turns out that Quamayne is now lying about that phone call;which is the reason why she opened her door at 5 in the morning, he is saying he did not call her. It is weird how she died leaving so much money to her son and he didn't even put up a 500 or 1000$ reward for the arrest of her killer, I guess he was too busy four weeks later flashing money on facebook, the same money he killed his mother for. From what I heard, the cops are watching the shop and they know that Quamayne son and Marcel the barber at Nappy Headz are responsible. The cops want any one who knows anything to call the chicago police at 312-744-8261.

ReplyDeleteI was reading the statement made back on March 2013 and the person said exactly what happen. Dude was just arrested back in December. I haven't heard about the guy Marcel Rey being arrested. He had given interviews back when Yolanda died about how he is so hurt and how he was one of her best friends. I wonder if cops are looking into him. The person who posted that comment in March 2013 really gave us the details ....woow. I'm glad he is locked.
