Downtown: Woman attacked during attempted Green Line robbery

A female passenger was attacked in The Loop during an attempted robbery on the CTA Green Line, according to police dispatch reports.

The incident happened between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Adams and Wabash “L” stop at 201 South Wabash Avenue; which services the Green, Pink, Purple, Orange, and Brown Lines.

Investigators said a black male suspect tried to forcibly take the woman’s cell phone.

The would-be thief is 20 to 26-years-old, about 6-feet-tall, and 180 pounds.

The offender has no facial hair and he was wearing a blue T-shirt and black jeans, said police.

At the time of this report, the mugger was still at large.

  1. What is it about these cell phones that so incite coons to commit crimes? 99% of them can't afford even a basic cellular package. I guess they're like the monkeys in the zoo who jump around shrieking when they hold a shiny foreign object.

  2. I don't get the infatuation with cell phones in this city either. I'd think they'd go for purses or briefcases. Only thing I can surmise is they're using them to commit more serious crimes with a phone in someone elses name before they're cut-off. Kinda like the serious/violent crimes committed with tne Nextel two-way pagers.

  3. They sell them at shady phone stores that buy used phones. $50-$100 for an iPhone, depending on the model/condition, no questions axed.

  4. ^ That too. It's kinda like when they would shut-down the chop-shops, ahem, YEARS ago and the car theft problem was curbed dramatically. They have some of those "shady phone stores" in even Chicago's "better" neighbhorhoods. If these lunatic activists here would open up their eyes and march for something worthwhile like shutting them down rather than worrying about a chicken filet restaurant, they're own businesses might thrive again.

    1. Not true.
Just Google "chicago l system" and youll see the whole shebang for the CTA train system.

So, "L" works just as well as "El" but is more commonly used by Chicagoans.

  6. In Chicago it's the 'L'.
In Noo Yawk, it's the 'El', because Noo Yawk has a train line called the 'L'.

  7. The CTA calls it the 'L', so it's officially the 'L'. Which is stupid because 'el' is short for elevated and 'L' means nothing. I call it the 'el' regardless. Red & blue downtown, I call 'the train'.

  8. I call it the traveling bordello
