Shots fired at motorist in Edgewater

Gunshots were fired at a motorist driving through Chicago’s North Side Edgewater neighborhood, said police.

Starting around 3:19 a.m., citizens reported shots fired on the 6000 block of North Kenmore Avenue, the 6000 block of North Sheridan Road, and 1000 block of West Glenlake Avenue.

About a minute later, police stopped a red, Oldsmobile Cutlass near the intersection of Broadway and Rosemont.

Authorities said the Cutlass had bullet holes in its rear window.

Citing police communications, the driver said two black males standing on the corner of Kenmore and Thorndale fired several shots at him.

The shooters, who were said to be 20 to 25-years-old, were wearing all black clothing and one male was wearing a White Sox hat.

The gunmen were last seen going southbound on Kenmore, said police.

As of 3:46 a.m., no injuries were reported and the shooters were still at large.

  1. Well it's a good thing we have "positive loitering" and a gun-ban otherwise this would be happening daily instead of 3 times per week.

  6. Police increased their presence on Thorndale between Broadway and Sheridan (Close to the red line station) the last few weeks because the Granville station was closed. Now that the station is open again, the police are gone and the south side honor roll students are back just hanging out on the corner eating Cheetos and drinking grape soda. I really don't understand why they like that neighborhood so much. There is nothing there but a bunch of old people and immigrants.

  7. July 20, 2012 you hit the nail on the coffin. The reason why these honor roll students love the area is because they offer easy victims; immigrants and old people. A store owner I know of in the area (he is from India) constantly has to deal with 3 to 10 kids coming in and stealing something and they just casually walk out the door. If he confronts them then he is going to have his butt handed to him. In the meantime he and his family have to suffer the loss of revenue. While he works 10 to 14 hours per day, seven days a week.

  8. @12:30 - people "hanging there all day" doing absolutely NOTHING should never be a cause for concern - for it's the Chicago way.

  9. Please call the police (911) when you see anything that looks suspicious. I see these guys all the time and they are becoming more bold. The police WANT you to call. The thugs WANT you to remain silent. When it is warm, people turn on the A/C and are less connected to the outside. Look out your windows. If the people on the street are not your neighbors and look like they may be dealing drugs or blocking the sidewalk/intimidating pedestrians, let the police know.

  10. ^ Yes, but be aware there WILL be backlash from many of your social worker, "artist" and "it's a big city - these things just happen, they have rights" neighbors.

  11. A wise old black woman once told me, "Girl, remember bars in the ghetto are not to keep the white man out."

  12. Does it seem a little suspicious to anyone else that a random pair of black guys (presumably gang bangers or other ne'er-do-wells) chose to fire at just 1 car? Any follow up on whether the car fired at might have been rival gang members (suspected or otherwise)? Not to say this excuses their actions, but it might just comfort the rest of us knowing this wasn't quite as random as it sounds on the surface?

  13. They should be arrested for carrying a firearm...that's illegal! Props to the defenseless fired upon for abiding by the law! Called the cops two days ago and they were a big fat no show. Gotta love it.
