Rafts sink, rescuers pull child from Lake Michigan

Several people were missing and a child had to be rescued after two rafts sank in Lake Michigan on the city's South Side, said authorities.

Around 5:18 p.m., people were in the water at the 57th Street Beach and their rafts were sinking, according to Chicago Police Marine Unit communications.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., an update indicated rescuers were trying to save a man from drowning near the 5700 block of South Lake Shore Drive in Hyde Park.

Another male, clinging to a flotation device, was pulled from the water, around 5:37 p.m.

Immediately thereafter, a 4-year-old Hispanic male, was rescued from Lake Michigan and authorities were searching for the boy's parents, who reportedly left the child behind and swam to shore.

Shortly after 6 p.m., the little boy was reunited with his parents and everyone was accounted for, said authorities.
