The accident occurred at 1550 North Lake Shore Drive, on the inner-driver, around 11:23 p.m., according to police dispatch.
One car, which contained a family of four to five people, was flipped over and facing the wrong away, said an officer at the scene.
Traffic near West North Avenue and East Burton Place was temporarily blocked while emergency workers cleared the scene.
At 11:36 p.m., the Chicago Fire Department was on standby in case the car's engine ignited.
