Cops: Downtown iPhone robber arrested on South Side

A male offender involved in a downtown strong arm robbery was arrested many miles away, on Chicago’s South Side, said police.

Around 6 p.m., a woman was robbed of an iPhone in Chicago’s downtown area.

Because of the chaotic police communications, Chicago News Report was unable to determine where the robbery occurred.

However, authorities did mention 1 North State Street and 125 South State Street, while discussing the crime.

After the victim was robbed, the victim’s sister chased the offender and became separated from her sister.  Although the two were later reunited, the sister who gave chase lost the offender, said police.

The thief was described as a skinny, 18-year-old black male wearing a blue jersey with white stripes and the number 18 on it.

At 6:15 p.m., police tracked the stolen cell phone, via GPS, to the Cermak - Chinatown, Red Line station at 138 West Cermak Road.

For several minutes, it seemed the phone stopped moving.

But at 6:24 p.m., the cell phone started approaching the 55th Street, Garfield, Red Line station at 220 West Garfield Boulevard, on the city's South Side.

Eventually, police caught the offender at the next stop, at the 63rd Street, Red Line station, 220 West 63rd Street.

At 6:48 p.m., the offender was brought to 125 South State Street, where the victim and the victim’s sister positively identified him as the male who stole the victim’s iPhone, said authorities.

  1. I hate the (c)rappers selling virus-laden (c)rap cd's in front of 1 North State Street. You couldn't even give me that crap for free or even if you gave me it AND five dollars.

  2. LOL. Detroit's GPS technology stopped Caddy's from being stolen literally overnight (like 10 years ago). And you people here are scrappin' over cell phones. Beyond comical. Wait til the $1 cigarette tax kicks in.

What are AON, Groupon, Motorola, Lettuce Entertain You, Ikea and the "mom and pops" doing about this? LOL.

  3. Great work to the cops. We need more of these guys on the streets rounding up these ghetto thugs.

I was at the beach this Friday....these punks were all over the place leaving their garbage on the beach acting like savages. A couple of them with their jeans around their ankles and wife beaters wrapped around their necks harassed our group. They were drinking out of plastic bags and were likely high on much more than alcohol. The cops need more man-power so they can clamp down on this BS. How can we expect tourists to visit our city if it's overrun by these vagrants?
