At 8:06 p.m., security at North Avenue Beach, 1600 North Lake Shore Drive, was holding a male offender for stealing a woman’s cell phone, said police.
While officers were investigating the alleged theft, a brawl erupted at the beach and an officer at the scene immediately called for back-up.
At 8:13 p.m., the same officer made a second request for back-up.
During the officer’s second request for assistance, a lot of commotion and what sounded like young, African American female voices, could be heard in the background, over the police radio.
When a police dispatch operator announced there was a “battery” at North Avenue Beach… someone, presumably a police officer, told the dispatcher that he is “not supposed to say that over the radio”.
At 8:24 p.m., authorities confirmed one person was arrested for theft and another beachgoer was arrested for battery.
Citing preliminary police dispatch reports, the theft and the battery are unrelated.
Meanwhile, on the South Side of Chicago, police at 31st Street Beach were looking for an alleged gunman.
Around 8 p.m., a 911 caller reported a man with a gun sitting on the railings next to a concession stand.
The gunman was described as a black male wearing a khaki-colored fisherman’s hat with a “rope” around his neck.
The alleged gunman was in the company of three other black males, according to eyewitnesses.
When police arrived, the suspects fled northbound on a nearby bike path, said authorities.
As of 8:47 p.m., there was no indication police made contact with the alleged offenders.
FYI: The Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, and the Chicago Police Marine unit were called to North Avenue Beach, around 9:05 p.m.
A 911 caller reported several males in Lake Michigan, about 50 yards into the water, calling for help.
Apparently, the swimmers made it safely to shore, on their own.
The Mayor's office has mandated that acknowledging that crime exists at major tourist attractions is a big no no...Until steps are taken to address the infestation, this will be a common occurrence in areas that were once considered to be the most desirable in the city. We need real leaders that won't hide behind political correctness and battle the plague that is slowly consuming our city.

ReplyDeleteHotels and the city should properly inform visiting tourists to avoid the lakefront from Fullerton to Ohio as its lost to the savages.
As for the local white posers and other fools that go there, they're getting what they deserve.
