Ukrainian Village: Female Subway sandwich employee shot in the neck

A woman was shot in the neck during an apparent robbery or an attempted robbery at a fast food restaurant in Chicago's Ukrainian Village neighborhood, said police.

The shooting occurred at the Subway sandwich shop at 1129 North Western Avenue, near Western and Haddon Avenues, around 8:50 p.m., said authorities.

Paramedics found 57-year-old Lyn Ward lying behind the counter and money was strewn across the floor, said the Chicago Tribune.

It appears Ward resisted during the so-called robbery, said News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

The shooting victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in "poor" condition, where she later died.

The offender was described as a male black, 30 to 40-years-old, 5'7" to 5'9", with a medium build and complexion.

  1. Money strewn across the floor? Maybe it was those same 2 shitheads that robbed a pizza place in UK village and dropped half the cash on the way out???

  8. I wonder if that poor woman saw him as "Death" ("The Grim Reaper") coming through the door; and that was why she ran.

    He looks like death.

Thank Illinois Politicians for making sure that not only can common people N O T be able to defend themselves; but if they are killed by garbage, they can be assured that the garbage that killed them WON'T die if captured.

    How nice.

  11. What a tragedy. A woman working an honest job, trying her best to do what is right, and has her life taken by some asshole who feels he can just take what he wants. And how many other places has he robbed? How many other people has he held up at gunpoint, terrorizing them?? How many other people has he shot??? Because in all likelihood, this wasn't the first time he robbed someone at gunpoint.

Her blood is on the hands of our politicians who refuse to allow citizens to arm themselves and carry protection. We don't know if she would have chosen to arm herself. We don't know if the store would have chosen to have protection in it for it's employees. We don't know if this would have turned out like the attempted robbery last month in Gary, IN, that resulted in the death of the gangbanging asshole who tried to rob a fast food store at 2 am with an assault weapon.

But we do know that Illinois & Chicago laws never even gave her a chance.
