A patrol officer called in a 10-1, a police distress call, after he spotted what he described as a large gang fight in the Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.
At 7:14 p.m., an officer requested backup outside the Rogers Park library at 6907 North Clark Street on the city’s Far North Side.
According to police, the incident was gang-related.
Authorities identified some of the participants involved in the brawl as Spanish Gangster Disciples or SGDs.
At one point, officers searched the inside of the library looking for suspects.
Citing preliminary reports, the offenders fled the scene in a tan SUV.
At the time of this report, no injuries were reported.

I doubt they were gathered there to renew their library cards before the fight went down. I also doubt they were protecting their turf...in front of a library they've probably never stepped foot in.
ReplyDeleteAccording to one source, the SGDs approached a rival gang outside the library.
ReplyDeletePolice also believe the same group may have been involved in the alleged robbery on the 6900 block of North Hamilton Avenue, near Hamilton and Farwell.
I have been in Chicago about four years and I noticed right away the public library, many of their locations, are not safe. Especially the Harold Washington library. It's best to just order your books online, travel to a "safe" branch and pick them up, or better yet, just buy the books used for pennies on Amazon.com.
ReplyDeleteIf I were a supposed "tough guy" or gangbanger, I would be embarassed that I was 1. Broke and 2. Ruling over a LIBRARY with an iron fist because I was broke.
