Man wanted for Near North Side Walgreens shooting, murder, hiding in Rogers Park?

Police are investigating a shooting at the Near North Side Walgreens at 315 West Chicago Avenue, in Chicago's River North neighborhood.

At least one person was killed during the shooting, said police.

One report indicated the alleged shooter was last seen headed northbound on the CTA Red Line.

Another eyewitness account stated the gunman fled the scene in a taxi cab.

Authorities identified the shooter as Dante Simmons from the 1600 block of West Juneway Terrace, in Rogers Park.

Simmons is 33-years-old, bald, has a light complexion, thin lips, and a pig nose, said police.

The suspected murderer is approximately 5'7" to 5'9" and 170 to 190 pounds.

Investigators said Simmons used to work at the Walgreens at 1200 North Dearborn Street.

A Walgreens manager reportedly told police that Simmons was seeing a psychiatrist while working at the Near North Side store.

At 10:28 p.m., a male black offender, presumed to be in his 20s, pulled a gun on a cab driver at North Glenwood and West Touhy Avenues.

Before the situation could escalate, the cabdriver drove away, said police.

The suspect, who has a light complexion, was wearing a black hat and a black jacket with white accents.

Around 11 p.m., a shooting was reported at 1832 West Juneway Terrace.

The victim was described as a male black, possibly in his 20s.

According to a responding officer, the victim was shot twice.

Investigators later confirmed that the shooting victim died at the scene.

As of 11:32 p.m., it's unclear if the man who was shot on Juneway Terrace is the same man who was involved in the River North Walgreens shooting.

UPDATE: At 11:57 p.m., police indicated Dante Simmons was still at large.

UPDATE: Simmons may be driving a white, 1998 or a 1999 four-door Nissan Altima with the license plate H788091. If you see this vehicle, notify police, immediately.

  4. I have had my police scanner on all night as they got the call about the shooter living up this way to the body being found. I swear not a few days goes by without something going on around my house. Makes me sad, it is returning to what it was like when I was a child.

  5. Maybe I'm naive, but I used to love hanging out in Rogers Park back in the late 80s, early 90s.

It wasn't until recently that I discovered all the violence that plagues that neighborhood.

  12. oooo how i miss queens pantry where they built the park and school on howard in rp - my friends n i used to cop herb and booze @ queens pantry - when we were like 16 we'd make the ride from skokie. a couple friends of mine were dumb and followed the weed peddlers into abandoned buildings to pick it up, got robbed and beaten up. i wonder if that 15 year old that got killed was trying to cop over there? i'll also never forget the nasty fat black cunt that was trying to sell us herb and pulled the dime bags out of her pussy, she told us how great the weed was, and asked if we'd like a whiff? lol so glad my dealers have been in biz for decades now and i dont' hafta cop on the street..... but what memories of 'jonquil terrace'. amazing how even with all the $ put into that hood in the last 15 years and being a block from the lake, it is still WAAAAAAAAAAAAY ahady..
