Loop car accident: Officers, citizen injured

A major car accident occurred in Chicago’s downtown Loop neighborhood New Year’s Day, said authorities.

Around 2:40 p.m., a crash was reported at 400 South Clark Street, near the intersection of West Van Buren Street and South Clark Street.

Two ambulances were called to the scene.

According to initial police dispatch reports, two police officers and at least one citizen was injured in the collision.

At the time of this report, the severity of the injuries and the cause of the accident were unknown.

Both officers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

It appears the citizen sustained "minor bumps and bruises".  

No further details are available.

  1. Car or van flipped over on inner LSD just north of Belmont tonight about 1am. Looked like another vehicle involved too! Road shut down, about 7 police vehicles.

    HOW does this happen? What's the speed limit there - 25?

  2. The winter speed limit is 40MPH & the rest of the year it's 45.
    But everyone goes at least 55 if there's not heavy traffic.
