Lakeview: Several arrests after ‘drug deal goes bad’ on Kenmore, says cops

Several people are in police custody after an alleged drug deal almost turned deadly in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, said police.

Police responded to a what was initially described as a burglary in progress on the 3200 block of North Kenmore Avenue, near Kenmore and School, around 10:13 p.m.

The 911 caller, who was locked inside a bathroom, said gunmen were breaking into the North Side home, said police dispatch.

Although Chicago News Report wasn’t able to get a good description of the intruders, police communications indicated the men were wearing “black beanies”.

When police arrived at the scene, there was a 1995 Chevy van idling in front of the home and the front and back doors of the property were reportedly “kicked in”.

Police arrested several alleged offenders inside the home.

One suspect was apprehended in a nearby alley, said authorities.

An ambulance was called to the scene after one of the alleged burglars, who was tasered by police, claimed he couldn’t breathe.

At approximately 10:36 p.m., an officer at the scene requested police dogs to assist in the search for possible narcotics.

Authorities discovered a safe in one of the home's bedrooms.

One source indicated weapons, cash, and drugs were ultimately found at the scene.

UPDATE: Left to right: Jason Street, Darius Franklin, Juan Terrazas, and Nick Patel were arrested after an alleged drug-related home invasion in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood on Sunday, said police.

Patel lives in the home where the incident occurred.

  1. I was leaving my girlfriend's house (who lives right over here) when I saw the police cars swoop into the area! The police responded quickly to the scene and really did their jobs. Props to the CPD!

  3. I highly doubt it was a drug deal gone bad. Drug dealers don't call 911. Why wasn't this on the news, there were cops everywhere while I was walking home at 10:15pm. No report on main newspapers or tv! Typical.

  4. I live near Kenmore & School and it was pretty intense. Never seen that many cop cars on a neighborhood street before. Looked like the Chicago PD did a great job though.

  5. I read it here 10 hours BEFORE I read it on Chicago Breaking News... Kudos to you again!

  6. I'm so tired of Chicago News making up stories! "Drug deal Gone Bad"???? Really? There could have been numerous reasons for an altercation. The fact that drugs were supposedly found (according to CNR) does not mean there was a drug deal in progress. I have yet to hear of a drug dealer calling 911 when trouble arises. Haha The police use a frequency that no one has access to for sensitive calls and/or communications. Anyone can listen to the district scanner and fill in the blanks using their imagination.

Kudos to CPD for the fast response.

  7. Anonymous, don't take our word for it, the Chicago Tribune reported the same story -- hours later.

Furthermore, there were several people inside the house when the so-called drug-related home invasion went down.

One of them probably got scared and called the cops.

Drug dealer or not, if you think your life is in danger, you are going to call for help.

While managing this blog, we have heard several 911 calls, mostly from the South and West Sides of Chicago, from self-described drug dealers claiming they were robbed.

Case in point: A South Side, South Shore man was "robbed" on Christmas day.

He reportedly admitted that he is a drug dealer, but he allegedly told 911 that the money the thieves stole from him was a Christmas present from his MOTHER.

FYI, we don't use our imagination to "fill in the blanks", we simply report what is reported.

  11. This general vicinity has to be the North sides drug alley. There was some guy constantly hitting me up that lived around there, considerably younger. He could never make plans beyond an hour. Said he worked 3 jobs. Made plans to meet up somewhere but will let me know "if something comes up". I asked if he was a drug dealer (not being sarcastic).

If you can't keep an appointment an hour away you're either delivering pizzas or drugs. If you're delivering pizzas, I think you'd be stationed at the restaurant for a set time. Told him to get lost. He thought I was mad at him. No, get lost. Drug runner.

Two reported similar incidences by CNR there and that personal experience. Sounds like a problem, the cops know of it and are obviously prepped. Thanks CPD.

  15. If I had to guess, the blacks and the Mexican are friends of someone who previously smoked or bought weed from the Indian. They knew he had marijuana so they planned on robbing the Indian.

  17. to yesterday at 2:03 - is that a sentence?

Honestly, though, when I see posts like that - no punctuation, all caps, terrible grammar, poor spelling (though at least this one isn't in phoenetic ebonics), it just reminds me of all the fat nigger women riding on CTA busses, shouting into their phones.

Try reading that post out loud, without taking a breath, and you'll agree, it's just like those fat bitches on the bus.

  18. yeah no need for the racism just because mr patel "would be better off running a comfort sweet like the other patels here," you make me sick. you probably are just jealous because your daddy was an alcoholic and your mother wished she had an abortion. would have made the world a better place to have one fewer racist asshole, tell her there is still time to end your meaningless existence, however.
