A 54-year-old Near North Side hotel clerk has been accused of attacking a 91-year-old resident with a baseball bat, but the clerk's "boss" told Chicago News Report that he stands by his employee.
Robert Richardson, a desk clerk at the Marshall Hotel, 1232 North LaSalle Drive, has been charged with battery and possession of marijuana, said police.
The charges stem from a Thursday, January 12, 2012 incident between Richardson and an elderly tenant.
Some time around 5 a.m., the clerk reportedly knocked on the resident's door. By the time the tenant opened his door, Richardson was walking away.
When the tenant went to confront Richardson, presumably, for knocking on his door at such an ungodly hour, an alleged altercation ensued.
The 91-year-old tenant was reportedly struck on the hand and cheek with a Louisville slugger.
The alleged victim sustained a laceration on his hand and facial swelling, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Chicago News Report called the hotel to get the clerk's side of the story.
We reached Mr. Richardson by phone, but when we identified ourselves, he simply put the receiver down and walked away.
When CNR called the Old Town neighborhood hotel back and asked for a manager, we spoke with a man named Ahmad.
Ahmad identified himself as Richardson's boss.
Ahmad told us that his staff has had problems with the 91-year-old resident in the past. In fact, we were told there have been multiple incidents.
CNR asked Ahmad if any of those alleged altercations were physical in nature.
“Yes. There have been many incidents with this tenant,” said the purported manager.
When CNR pressed Ahmad for details, he said he didn’t feel comfortable discussing the matter over the phone, because “I have no idea who you are”.
Before we hung up, CNR asked Ahmad if he thought it was fair that his clerk is being vilified.
“No!”, he said.

If your po-po and the tax-evading "liberals" here can't handle them.......so be it. But....can you please put those "I just discovered I DO get tips and don't have to claim them" (heard this evening along with "but that's what it's all about, right?") peeps in with this 91 year old for a day? Or with Ahmad? He'll be more than happy to tell you what's wrong with America but ain't payin' taxes either. Trust me.
ReplyDeleteThis hotel is part of the SRO "Legion of Doom" that disability scamming-losers fill to the brim.
ReplyDeleteThey are all the same, if they are not nignogs, then they are scuzzy white men in their 40-60's, have limited education, a penchant for walking around the neighborhood panhandling or picking up cigarette butts to smoke, and technology for them stopped progressing about 1982.
My brother-in-law once lived at the Marshall. He was constantly harassed and made to feel as if he was some sort of criminal. He never bothered anyone and kept to himself. I can't help wondering if it was Richardson who gave him so much trouble. We convinced him to move out and find a better place to live. Many of the residents I met there don't have family willing to help them. They might feel as if that kind of treatment is the best they can do. I'm very sorry that such a disgrace to the human race like Richardson exists. He clearly woke that man up just because he knew he could do it without a care about his need for sleep. Anyone who stands with someone who would do that must be ten times worse, as I see things.
ReplyDeleteThis place looks like the hotel in "Blues Brothers" that Elwood lives in. Transients welcome!!
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to worry about our CNR blogger...the site has not been updated in 4 days. Are you ok??
ReplyDeleteThe social service agencies, mainly the religious ones, fill places like this to the brim with their clients, and provide little or no structure afterwards.
ReplyDeleteThey are complicit in the trashiness of this city.
