Body in Chicago River, really dog in a bag, says police

Police said what a citizen thought was a body floating in the Chicago River, was really a dog in a bag.

Around 4:58 p.m., investigators responding to a possible body in the water, searched the area near the Franklin Street Bridge where Orleans Street meets the Chicago River.

According to police dispatch, the 911 caller said the suspicious item was last seen on the west side of the bridge.

At approximately 5:10 p.m., a responding officer said he located a dog in a tan bag along the riverbank, but the dog and the bag were not in the water.

Shortly thereafter, animal control was notified.

At the time of this report, the dog’s condition was unknown.
