A Chicago Edgewater neighborhood man was attacked and robbed by three offenders, said police.
The strong arm robbery happened around 7:49 p.m. near the 5500 block of North Winthrop Avenue, near Winthrop and Catalpa, said police.
Investigators said three male black offenders knocked the victim to the ground, punched him the back of the head, and stole his cell phone.
The main offender, who has a heavy build, was wearing a gray vest with a black hooded sweatshirt underneath.
The assailants fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
At approximately 8 p.m., about 10 minutes after the robbery on Winthrop and Catalpa, an officer in the area spotted a dark-colored, four-door Ford Explorer traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Foster from Ravenswood.
The vehicle was last seen going southbound on Ashland from Foster.
At the time of this report, the thieves were still at large.

Always a group of them to attack ONE person. They're ALL cowards unless, of course, they have a gun...the only time they have balls.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reporting this stuff CNR, while they still try to prop up this "world class city" with a broomstick. We'd never know about it otherwise.
ReplyDeleteGlad I opted out of the home purchase there. I smelled a rat. Sixth sense I guess (or maybe it was the bass thumpin' car that parked out front during the second showing). Or the the "Winthrop/Kenmore Corridor" I read about.
"Lakefront" property. Really a shame. Live in a highrise "it's safer", he (Whitey) said.
Convenient "public transportation" nearby is the sellinig point though, right? NOT!
It is a shame these black ghetto thugs are forcing us out of our city. This is our city, and many of us have roots in this city longer than these black ghettos. Most of the ghettos came here from the south. I wish we could send them back there.
ReplyDeleteI wish my employer would just fire me so I could collect unemployment and get out of here. That's how much I hate it. They called an "urgent" meeting at headquarters today. I thought this would be "the day" but was disappointed.
ReplyDeleteAnd in the office, a client was talking about her co-worker that was assaulted near the McClurg Court mess "because of the Section 8 they put there". Her and her co-worker are Black. Discovered we were both raised in government subsidized housing in the 70's/80's but made something of ourselves without robbing, shooting, stabbing, selling drugs or popping out babies.
I happen to live on a block in that exact area. You people are extremely ignorant. This kind of thing happens EVERYWHERE in the city. Most likely, the offenders live in this area and were not from the Southside. Also, most likely, the person was on their cell phone NOT paying attention to their surroundings, at night, on a dimly lit portion of street. While I'm not saying they asked for it, I am saying they put themselves in exactly the position a robber looks for. Do not walk and talk on your cell phones at night, alone.
ReplyDeleteI live in this area. 7:50 p.m. on a Friday night is when many people get home from work, and this person could very well have been walking south from the Bryn Mawr el after work, for all we know. Unlike the poster above, who in fact does blame the victim, this is unacceptable. Get some self-respect here and take some pride in your neighborhood before tacitly encouraging violence, please. Also, let's not forget the positives of this area. Number one is that Schiller is no longer alderman of Uptown, so there is hope that someone responsible will improve the area instead of pandering for votes. And number two is the fact that Edgewater is a great neighborhood - with a beautiful lakefront, fantastic people and top-notch restaurants and the entire Clark corridor walking distance away. I believe the neighborhood is really poised to grow positively.
ReplyDeleteRight blame the victim. And right again, the offenders probably weren't from the South side -they live there! I don't care to buy an already overpriced condo in a "neighborhood" where I keep having to spin my head around like Linda Blair in the Exorcist for safety reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe area has some positives (fast #147 express commute to work). Other than that? Nice lake front, more parklike and not as close to the freeway (LSD) compared to others but cops that are shooing you off of it at 9:45 p.m. because "there are criminals out here, ya know!" (verbatim). And one of the many junk stores along that strip "unlock phones at competitive rates" right off the Red Line. How convenient. Aiding and abetting is what I call it.
Have it. That is NOT "diversity".
i forgot what a racist cesspool this site was, sickening.
ReplyDeleteinteresting how you all come on here anonymously to complain about ...I'm not sure what.
ReplyDeleteIf this is truly a dimly lit area, let's work toward getting some lighting installed. Let's demand more police attention. Let's find something constructive for our young population to do at 7:50p on a Friday night.
Let's not blame victims or race or economic level.
