22-year-old Angelo J. Bird of the 800 block of Prairie View Lane in Woodstock, Illinois, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 93-year-old disabled woman at the Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Crystal Lake, reports the TribLocal.
On September 25, 2011, Bird was working as a certified nurse's assistant when the 93-year-old nursing home resident accused Bird of inappropriately touching her while she was sleeping.
According to the TribLocal, the former Larkin High School student, who has no prior convictions, was released from jail after paying 10% of his $40,000.00 bond.
Chicago News Report reached out to Bird for his response to the charges. CNR is still waiting for a response.
A 2011 Medicare inspection report indicated residents at the Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Center were at "immediate" risk for "mistreatment, neglect, and/or theft of personal property."
The risk level was assessed at a level 4, the highest score possible.
In 2009, complaints were filed alleging the nursing home "failed to hire only people who have no legal history of abusing, neglecting or mistreating residents".
Furthermore, Crystal Pines "failed to report and investigate any acts or reports of abuse, neglect or mistreatment of residents," continued the complaint.
A subsequent Medicare investigation determined the residents were at "minimal harm or potential for actual harm".

ReplyDeleteHe looks white...I think we can move along to the next article on a black.
ReplyDeleteSick twisted loser with an "angry inch"...
ReplyDeleteNursing homes are vile places where people are abused and neglected at the very end of their lives, they usually get robbed blind by CNAs who steal their bank account/credit card information and the other residents also will steal their clothes, DVDs and other personal effects.
ReplyDeleteI agree with 11:15 am poster, nursing homes are vile & subject their tenants to humiliation, disgrace, & robbery.
ReplyDeleteShame on adult children who send their parents to these places to die. One reason I work my a$$ off, besides to provide for my wife & children, is so when my parents, or when my mother in law (father in law already gone) are at the age when they can no longer live by themselves, I will be able to accept them into my home to live out their days with dignity.
Sounds like some Senile 93 year old dog needs to be put down. Pull the plug on the loony and move on.
ReplyDeleteI think before any of you post on here you should spend a day in a CNA's shoes. I am also a CNA and I can say from experience that we work hard to make sure our guests are very happy and well taken care of. To say all nursing homes "are vile & subject their tenants to humiliation, disgrace, & robbery." is a very sad and ignorant way of thinking. A lot of the time I have found that family members cant handle their parents change in personality as they get older so their excuse is to "drop them off" and rarely come see them again. So guess where that leaves the elderly?? Alone, confused and outraged at their children for making that decision for them. And who takes care of them in such a negative state of mind? CNA'S DO! And they care for them with the utmost respect. So for you to comment on something in such a general manner when maybe youve only had a bad experience with one place is asinine and you should feel ashamed of yourself. I dont know if this young man is guilty of the things he's being accused of but he shouldnt have to defend himself on top of being scrutinized for taking a job that most people feel is beneath them.
ReplyDeleteThat "senile dog who needs to be put down" is my grandmother. Call me crazy, but the PAID employee who did this to her needs to be punished. Whoever you are "anonymous", you must be pretty high and mighty not to put your name. Coward. As for the comment by the CNA. He has admitted doing these things to the police. The trial is later this month and I hope he has to serve the maximum imprisonment possible.
ReplyDeleteIf you really were her grand daughter, then you would have the common decency to keep this a private matter for your family sake, and for her justice if he is guilty. Seems like you might be a money hungry individual to me. Grow up maybe, who cares what you have to say in the matter every one will find out the truth in a couple weeks.
ReplyDeletewhy is it when something tragic like this happens in or around our community, others jump to the conclusion that it will attract hunger for money? a lot of these victims cannot speak for themselves. In a matter like this im sure money is the last thing on someones mind. Some people who comment on here are simply ignorant.
ReplyDeleteI agree whole heartedly with the CNA. No one wants to do the work but the CNAs are the first to get blamed for everything in the nursing homes. Many families dont know how to handle the changes their parent or parents are going through and take it out on the CNAs. As for the case... if you are personally involved in it im pretty positive you are now allowed to disclose information such as he confessed to it to the police. Because IF HE DIDNT there could be police action taken against you..grandaughter or not.
ReplyDeleteI agree with most of the statements here. The man involved has been battered and beaten through this case, and will most likely never be able to work in the medical field, even when he is found innocent. YUH88648, I hope for your sake that your grandmother doesn't spend the rest of her years in jail for false accusations, and that you are not persecuted for revealing information. May the jury be honest, and truth prevail. I suppose we'll see when court resumes later in the month.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, granddaughter of loony, your name is much less anonymous. Glad to see you are interested in the media attention this is gathering. How odd and suspicious of you.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I should be more sensitive. It must be difficult to see the one you abandoned at the end of her life in such distress.
I hope you do spend the rest of your life behind bars for false accusations. Go get a job, stop preying on the innocent.
