Toy gun used in attempted Lincoln Park robbery

A would-be robber, armed with a toy gun, bit off more than he could chew.

Around 1:12 a.m., an attempted robbery was reported on the 2600 block of North Hampden Court, near Hampden and Wrightwood in Lincoln Park.

A male victim was approached by a suspect who brandished a toy gun, said police.

Instead of complying with the crook’s demands, the victim fought back, injuring the suspect, said police.

The offender was left bloodied with facial wounds, and his toy gun was broken during the struggle, said authorities.

Police described the toy-gun-toting thief as a black man with a dark complexion and a bald head.

He is approximately 35-years-old, 6’1”, and 170 pounds.

The offender was last seen wearing a long sleeve black shirt and blue jeans.

At the time of this report, the toy gun bandit was still on the loose.

  1. Good for this "almost" victim for fighting back! This is exactly what we all need to be doing instead of becoming victims. I had to take out my pepper spray and threaten to use it on someone street crazy who pushed me, harassed me and continued to follow me. The minute I gave them warning and took out my pepper spray, they stopped and went in the other direction. I didn't have to use it BUT I would have!

Mike P is right. Surprise is an excellent tactical advantage that you should maximize to your advantage.

Pepper spray is very low on the force continuum. Many people seem to treat pepper spray as if it were some kind of dangerous weapon, but in reality, it is a very tame sort of tool, given the entire force spectrum.

The moment someone makes aggressive/violent physical contact with you, that is battery, and you should have been pepper spraying him with great enthusiasm long before that.

Fighting back, in whatever fashion, is always better than being a passive victim.
