Man found hanging from Avondale neighborhood bridge, dead


Around 3:25 a.m., police received a call that a man hung himself from a Northwest Side Chicago bridge.

According to police dispatch, a man was hanging from a bridge at 2600 or 2601 West Belmont Avenue, near Belmont and Rockwell, above the Chicago River.

The location is a few blocks south of Devry Institute of Technology at 3300 North Campbell Avenue.

At 3:35 a.m., authorities were trying to determine the best way to reach the man.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit was contacted for assistance.

Initially, it was unclear if the man is deceased, but sources have confirmed the man is dead.

Authorities did not say if the hanging was suicidal or accidental.

However, one source said the man was hanging from a rope.
