Teen charged in Rogers Park, Jonquil Terrace shooting, planned beach outing after murder

Alleged photos of Rogers Park murder suspects: Dyshawn Brown (L) and Devonte Lamb (R).

Dyshawn Brown, 16; Devonte Lamb, 17; and 15-year-old Desmond Smart, have been charged as adults in the murder of 23-year-old Lawrence "Ricky" Wilson.

Wilson, a youth counselor with a criminal past, was shot in the chest on the 1500 block of West Jonquil Terrace in Rogers Park.

The shooting occurred Sunday, August 7, 2011, around 12:48 a.m.

Later that same day, at approximately 8:40 p.m., police arrested Dyshawn Brown and Desmond Smart at an apartment building at 7644 North Greenview Avenue.

Devonte Lamb, who was also in the apartment, managed to escape, but was arrested shortly thereafter.

According to various news sources, the teenage murder suspects were paid to kill a member of the Gangster Disciples.

It's unclear if Wilson was the intended target.

Through a Chicago News Report investigation, we learned that Dyshawn Brown, a suspected member of the Four Corner Hustlers, possibly knew the police were closing in on him, felt betrayed by his family, and was planning to spend his last day of freedom at the beach.

In an August 7, 2011, 9:33 a.m. post on Brown's Facebook page, the murder suspect shared the following message:

"finna hit disz day up like its my last...finna hit dha beach up dha right way wit all the guys its a beutiful day today, i c i cnt trust family i c its a fukd up world..."

Brown's words clearly indicate he knew something was about to change.

Question: How do a plan a day at the beach after being involved in a homicide? Allegedly.

"Hark, for I plan to seize the day as though my era on this earth is coming to a close. Yes, I should wish one last time to rest this young body upon the sands, under the great sun and clear blue skies with my brethren...although i suspect betrayal has occurred perhaps amongst those with whom I associate, or perhaps even my own kin...alas, this world is not fit nor fair for those who dwell upon it."

  2. What a waste of air space. Just execute him, in the street. I'd pay to see that. It would be a great way for the city to gather revenue!

  3. Another example of no moral conscience...he's going to the beach after killing someone. What a shame we no longer have the death penalty!

  4. My friend Dyshawn Brown is a good person he would never do such a thing he is a really good kid. He just got involved with the wrong group of people.

  5. Why Black People must you continue to live up to your stereotype? Stop having little bastards and dumping them into the world with no direction. Sterilization of certain people would BE a good thing.

  6. Diversity offers us so much: with out blacks, think of all that we would lose. Think of the fashion, the music, the food, the vernacular (which I adore), the sports (we can still watch if not actually play), and the dancing. Just wonderful stuff really. All social problems can be solved through diversity.

  7. Everyone needs to stop judging them, they just werent thinking right and made a big mistake...i know if they could take it back they would. Dyshawn and Devonte are my friends and i know they are good people, in my eyes they will always be good people. Nobody can say anything till you are in a position were its people you care about that are in a situation like this! So i want you all to think about that.

  8. Anon @ 12:56 you are a big problem in this society. Regardless of your friendship with these people they are obviously bad and negative to society overall. This isn't just some "mistake", they were paid to take someones life, which they successfully did. Maybe you shouldn't go on preaching this until you are in the position of the victim/victim's family, where a bunch of thugs murdered a loved one. I hope all three of these men spend the rest of their lives in prison.

  10. "Dyshawn and Devonte" are good people!!? Really!? Not they are not! They are scum that we unfortunately have to live with. I hope they never see the light of day. All these young thugs are doing is messing it up for the members of the black community that are not ghetto, gun totting, kool-aid drinking fools!

  11. Towards the person above me: Dyshawn & Devonte are good people for your information. they are just teens going down a destructive path. And its up to us as a community to help our black youth so they dont go down bad paths in life and don't do things like this. Now I must say that what they did was very cold and callus but they are still human beings. No excuse in the world could explain why they did this and I honestly believe that they SHOULD in fact pay for what they did. its sad how our youth today are walking down the roads of destruction.... as a society we have to change that. we should not treat these KIDS like cold hearted criminals. They are children that need help in many ways possible. Now, I'm sad to hear that someone had to lose their life over pretty much nothing....that man didnt deserve to lose the life that GOD has given him. I will keep Dyshawn, Devonte, Desmond < & the family of the victim close to my heart and in my prayers .

  13. No one deserves to have their life taken. I don't believe in an eye for an eye. I think kids in general are lost. And ina. Community where they don't have money and they don't have that strong male figure they will go down the wrong path. Kids need help, they need guidance, they need the right resources to become successful individuals in society.what they did was absolutely herrendous but my cousins been on death row. And I know him and he's a good person and I hate seeing him there. But I have had people close to me die and if someone did that to them, id want them dead. So try not to be biased because if it was the other way around it would always be different.
