Man arrested after allegedly flashing gun in Boystown

The troublemakers in Chicago's Boystown, Lakeview neighborhood aren’t just carrying pepper spray and knives. Apparently, some of them are armed with guns.

Thursday, July 7, 2011, around 11:20 p.m., a citizen flagged down a police car, after a man reportedly flashed a weapon.

The incident occurred the 3200 block of North Clark Street, near Clark and Belmont, said police.

The suspect, who was described as a black man wearing a red shirt and a white bandanna, lifted his shirt and exposed a handgun, said police.

After the alleged incident, the suspect went westbound on Belmont Avenue.

Police arrested a man matching the alleged offender's description at the Belmont “L” station at 945 West Belmont Avenue, around 11:36 p.m.

Investigators said they also recovered a weapon.

No further details are available.

  1. Now that he's been nabbed keep him locked up. We don't want him out victimizing people. Jail is where he belongs.

  2. This is exactly how communities become ghetto's. The law abiding residents move out and leave it to the ignorant, uneducated, morally bankrupt ghetto thugs. All one has to do is look at the south and west sides to see that's exactly what happens. EVEN the working educated blacks move out. If the CPD doesn't get this under control, the same will happen in LakeView. If the black community does not do something about the element coming out of their communities, it will be like a domino effect and this city will become another Detroit. Forget about Tom Tunney, he's too busy being "PC" to really do anything about it. There is no excuse on earth that justifies this behavior! This is beyond pathetic anymore!

    CONCEAL CARRY NOW!

  3. What can I do to protect myself? I've been asking myself this lately and I don't even know what's legal.

Is it legal for me to carry pepper spray to defend myself? I mean, I can't carry a handgun, right? I don't even own a gun, but if I could (legally), I think I would!

    Suggestions please --

  4. Anonymous@12:56,
I carry pepper spray and a full can of pop in my messenger bag. My brother suggested carrying a sock with a couple rolls of quarters in it. Also, I read one suggestion that someone was carrying "rocks in a sock". Guns may be illegal but with some of the paltry things that are legal, damage can be done to these ghetto thugs. have your finger on the trigger of the pepper spray and swing a mean bat..someones lights are going out!

Pepper spray is legal in Chicago, but I must warn you that it is not really an appropriate response to a deadly force situation, and a mob of violent thugs attacking a single individual definitely qualifies as a deadly force situation.

I think pepper spray is effective in certain situations, and if that is all you have, then it is better than nothing.

Knives with blades under three inches in length are legal in the city limits. You can do a tremendous amount of lethal damage, even with a small blade, if you use it with fierce determination and a bit of skill. Wielding a knife of any kind is considered deadly force, so be advised, if you pull it out, it had better be a life threatening situation or you may find yourself in some very hot water, legally speaking.

Pepper spray and knives are tools, and they are effective within their respective place in the array of responses (pepper spray being very low on the ladder, and clubs/knives/guns being at the top). In the middle, there are empty hand martial arts skills. Your responses must be appropriate to the situation and you might use them in various combinations as the situation develops.

Of course, none of these things will help you if you do not have the determination to win.

The firearms laws have been changing (for the better, slowly) in Chicago, with City Hall fighting them tooth and nail. If you support the idea of lawful firearms defense, then I urge you to join the Illinois State Rifle Association and/or the NRA and fight for your Second Amendment Rights.

I must add the disclaimer that I am not a lawyer and that you should double check the laws in your area with a knowledgeable professional.

  10. Illinois is the only state without concealed carry. Guess where the bad guys are going to be "safe.? Concealed carry s the only way a citizenry can protect itself when the police are so outnumbered as to be ineffective. I'm not saying everyone should carry a gun. What CC laws do is put fear in the hearts of criminals from not knowing if their victims are armed to kill them. No one wants to die. Interviews with convicts in prison show that they scared of robbing people in communities where their victims might be armed.

No, CC doesn't mean the Old West all over again. That has not happened in any of the other states where CC is legal. Getting a CC permit would require training and testing like other states require.

Idiot politicians in Chicago stand in the way of getting CC laws passed in this state, while they have fully armed bodyguards to protect them. Bad guys don't care about laws and they are armed, too, just like the hood in this story. Ever hear of a politician being robbed?

Write your Senator and get CC carry passed in Illinois!

  11. I believe it will be sometime this week that this "liberalism" perfectland state of Illinois (aka Chicago as that's ALL you have) will be the ONLY state banning CCW's.

An armed society is a polite society.

  12. Sorry for the mishaps of your community, but the whole world is faced with the same dilema. There will be fearful sightings in one place after the next. Really it has nothing to do with race. Those days all gone. There is no more flight from community to community, neighborhood to neighborhood; we are living in perlis times. Now is the time to examine personally what is this world become and what should I be doing. Things will continue to go from bad to worst no man will be able stop crime, hatred, and voilence. Every man is accountable for whats happening on earth. Please take note before its too late.

  13. "become another Detroit". PUH-leeze! You silly "liberal" gays here have your heads so far up your as* in search of a $ to pay your second mortgages on your 700 sq.ft. "condo-cage", you haven't a clue. "Detroit" establishments take care of their clientele. Chicago "gay bars" haven't a clue who their clientele even IS! Courtney who just got her "license" to drink? Pimp Daddy? The bridal party? "Straight men" from a cubs game?

Let 'em ALL literally fall in your front doors for the sake of "diversity" (oh, and that $). You've got what you asked for!
