Would you PLEASE stop identifying groups of people by race? This site is as bad as Stormfront. Do you identify white "mobs" by race? Of course not. Stop it, please. You're violating the very terms listed above!

ReplyDeleteNewsflash, THE ONLY reasons the mainstream media doesn't mention color when it comes to blacks is so the tourists aren't scared away and, here's the big one, so there aren't race riots.
There is NO WAY in hell these ghetto thugs belong in that park PERIOD! They simply are there to cause trouble, scope out the "hood" and scope out who they can rob next. WTP is becoming a ghetto mall, thanks to the "youth" coming out of the south side /west side communities not knowing how to act in public! Change the behavior and MAYBE attitudes change towards these ghetto thugs. You don't see mobs of white people jumping black people now do you? Oh and don't bother going back in time, it's old, worn out and an excuse now!
If you don't like the content of the articles or the comments, than start YOUR OWN blog. This blog does the city and it's taxpaying hardworking INNOCENT citizens a service. IF you don't like it than change the "youth" coming out of YOUR communities and maybe the "so called profiling" that you scream about might stop.

I agree if a mob is black then say it!! Enough with the PC crap! If they are hispanic, asian, white, black, whatever please let the public know. This is NOT racist. It is simply identifying the criminals.

I also challenge you and the Chicago News Report staff to just let the comments be what they are, and respect freedom of speech. Even if they are racist, sexist, or homophobic! Keep up the good work!

ReplyDeleteI remember reading years ago that in some city council meeting a black council member became upset when a white council member commented on a subject using the phrase 'call a spade a spade' not realizing that the term is actually describing a SHOVEL. This country has become too sensitive.
If I called the police and needed to describe the gang, I would call them white, black, asian WHATEVER! The police cannot help if they do not know whom to look for. Sheesh, chill out...
There is no way in hell those black bums belong in that park. They were there to cause trouble. If that cop hadn't spotted them, someone would have gotten beaten or robbed.

I have this to say about the whole "race" thing on this blog. There is nothing wrong with Timothy and his staff publishing the race of people who are involved in specific crime and disorder issues at all. In fact, I feel that it is important to know who's behind these things, so you know who and what to watch out for. Hell, I publish race on my own blog for the same reasons. However, some of the comments that make it to this blog are in fact very racist and bring down groups of people for no reason. All of you need to remember that not all people in a specific race are lowlifes and are thugs. There are some people of these races who actually are law-abiding citizens and live good, clean lives. And guess what? They dislike these hoodrats as much as the rest of us do. So to those who make these racist comments, and I won't name names, just remember that, all right?

ReplyDeleteSome of us have made the distinction when we comment, that we are talking about a certain group within a culture. I have done it many many times. I see nothing wrong with saying IF these ghetto thugs are coming from the south or wests sides, they are not wanted in our neighborhoods. You yourself just used the term "hoodrats" which could be misconstrued as racists as well depending on who's reading it. People need to stop worrying about being so politically correct and so sensitive to EVERY word that's used. Yes, some comments are pretty racist, others, such as myself, use a specific term, like ghetto thug, to describe ANY one who is inflicting their form of terror on innocent victims. We need to call it as it is and I agree, the ethnicity of these ghetto thugs provides information that WE all need in order to know just WHO to look out for. That's the issue with blogs, tweets and email, people read something in their own particular way and than spin it according to their way of reading it. They never really know the person making the comment and than an "ass-"umption is made. The biggest RACIST comment, to me, is using the "N" word and yet, black people use it all the time. IF a white person were to use it towards a black person, it than becomes offensive and RACIST. I find it RACIST period just like "dyke" & "fag" but those terms used more often to describe gays than the "N" word is used is used to describe blacks. Just my thoughts...

ReplyDeleteIs a group of people congregating in a public park a crime? No. So why is this being reported as a crime. If a bunch of white people congregated in a park, nobody would think anything of it and it certainly wouldn't end up on this "news" blog. If this site is for crime reporting, then report crimes, not just any old thing that makes some white people uncomfortable (groups of black men). The fact that this is on your site, along with the many comments, give me a pretty clear impression of what this blog is really about. Sad.

And it's not like ghetto thugs didn't create their own problems in that neighborhood by mob action against several people or mugging and robbing residents of that neighborhood, right? You truly don't expect people to be "PC" after that, right?! Like these thugs didn't move along when they knew they were being watched. INNOCENT people don't do that and I don't care what COLOR they are!
I don't need to read that book nor do I advocate killing people. Perhaps you should stop reading books that inflame you. The only thing that inflames me are ghetto thugs, in ANY color inflicting their style of urban terrorism on ANY innocent citizens. What's your excuse?
@Towanda: Do I need an excuse to say that these people weren't doing anything illegal? I don't dispute your claim that it may have looked sketchy to some people, but your assertion that black men don't belong in a public park, no matter where it is in Chicago, is disgusting. Many people from the South and West sides go to lakefront parks specifically to get away from the areas they live in. The parks are for everyone's recreation, which includes simply hanging out with friends. Their moving along could easily be explained by their being used to being viewed with suspicion BECAUSE they are black and look out of place. Whatever their intentions, they did nothing illegal. Just because they make you uncomfortable does not mean they did anything wrong.
ReplyDeleteI don't quite know where "advocat[ing] killing people" came from, but I certainly wasn't insinuating that you do. Maybe you misread "excluding" as "executing" in my previous post? It is a pretty fascinating book, especially that chapter and I do suggest you read it.
Anyway, I agree with you that PC language is dated and worthless for the most part. You are right about "if the shoe fits." The problem is that so many people, yourself included, make that shoe fit a whole lot of people undeservedly. I also despise thugs, but calling out the entire black community (which I have seen in some of your other posts) to change the behavior of a few, lest the entire community look bad, simply isn't possible and seems to be an excuse to retrench, distrust, and vilify an entire group of people (South and West side residents, etc). I agree with you that we need to keep crime out of our neighborhoods, but we should keep it out of ALL neighborhoods. Hateful language with no realistic solution proposed hardly helps that end at all.

ReplyDeleteFirst, sorry, I did misread the word but I sometimes do that because I don't see too well out of one of my eyes.
Second, I never said "black men" and have distinguished ghetto thugs as anyone who commits crimes against innocent victims from hardworking, taxpaying contributing black people AND anyone else for that matter. I am not uncomfortable around black men but I am uncomfortable around those who look and act suspicious, as I'm sure many others are as well. I would hope that people can tell the difference. Perhaps all the mob action on Michigan Ave and even in that park is reason enough for people to be concerned. The type of behavior that has been going on on Michigan Ave and in many other communities causes people to alter their attitudes and thinking. It's human nature so...CHANGE THE BEHAVIOR.
I do, however, think the entire black community has to help in changing what is happening in their communities. The police need their help as do all other communities having problems. Community involvement is one of the elements in changing the dynamics of a community and in changing a bad neighborhood to possibly a good and safe neighborhood so, IF calling out the black communities to do that is what you think is impossible, I am guilty. I have also mentioned ALL communities in my comments and have put up solutions. Seems these things go unnoticed when someone wants to accuse people of being racist or bigoted...I'm not saying that's what you did, but I have noticed that only certain parts of a comment get the response. I'm just saying. Ghetto thugs are changing the way people react and respond. This has to be changed. Perhaps this generation or two is a lost cause and because of that, EVERYONE has to be on guard, pay attention and fight to keep their neighborhoods safe. The new generation can surely be changed. Teach your children well....

Large groups of ghetto thugs do NOT belong in the nice parts of town, period, end of story. Just because they trashed their own neighborhoods does not give them the right to trash ours.
