VIDEO: CHA residents protest, rally against drug screenings and stricter rules
Wednesday, residents marched in front of CHA headquarters at 60 East Van Buren Street. The protesters said CHA's proposal to drug test residents 18 and over, is unconstitutional. In addition, the low-income lease-holders do not want to be held accountable for the negative behavior of their visitors; which would make it easier for CHA to evict them.

Funny. They can come together when their free ride is challenged, but you don't see these lazy freeloaders protesting when their black children are killing and robbing people. What a sad bunch of lunatics!
ReplyDeleteIf people who work for the government have to agree to be randomly drug tested to keep their JOBS, then people who receive from the government should be required to do at least that much. Nobody is being forced to do drug tests, but if you want assistance then that's your choice.
ReplyDeleteLook at all the welfare kings, queens, princes, and princesses. Disgusting!
ReplyDeleteIf they're not doing drugs, what are they worried about? Ha, they think it's humiliating to pee in a cup but not to take handouts? They don't think the ghetto thugs killing and robbing everyone are humiliating to their culture? Just peeing in a cup. Wow, shows what's important to them for sure. You want the government to either pay for your housing or help you pay for it but you don't want to pee in a cup? Are you fricking kidding me?! For all the freebies they get, peeing in a cup is the very LEAST they can do.
ReplyDeleteIf someone gave me a 3 bedroom apt for $26 a month just for urinating in a cup, I'd be peeing all over the place! Get a life! Lazy HOODRATS!
ReplyDeleteTHEY KNOW THEY ARE BREAKING RULES/LAWS THAT'S WHY THEY ARE PROTESTING!
These people have a right to privacy. Why should they be subjected to unreasonable searches and drug tests WITHOUT probable cause? Because they're poor? How would you like if someone did that to you? Shame on you people!
ReplyDelete"These people have a right to privacy. Why should they be subjected to unreasonable searches and drug tests WITHOUT probable cause? "
ReplyDeleteBecause they get GOVERNMENT money. If they worked, they would be subjected to random drug tests just like everyone else. Since they depend on the government and taxpayer money, they should have to pee in a cup for that "paycheck".
This is a travesty! Why can't I live in the Altgeld Gardens for free and use your hard earned tax dollars to buy my weed and the occasional rock? Stop taking away my right to be a complete freeloader and financial drain on this city!
ReplyDeleteThose ungrateful freeloaders aren't confined to the projects! They live in Uptown, Edgewater, Rogers Park, and Evanston too! Those lazy criminals are everywhere!
ReplyDeleteTo read the views of my fellow citizens is disheartening, but not surprising. It is easy to point fingers at poor people and say that we are poor because it is our fault. Most of the people that have stood up against this issue live in communities that have suffered from municipal and private disinvestment for decades. No one is upset about that. The quality of education from the systematic side, is dismal. No one is upset about that. Poverty is a social construct and I, a former affordable housing resident who recently purchased a home, stand with these brothers and sisters. Do companies have to pee in a cup before they get tax breaks (which are government subsidies)? Do homeowners have to pee in a cup before they get tax breaks? You don't reduce crime by ethnic cleansing, you reduce crime by investing in your citizens' success. Invest in better schools, economic development and you will give people hope. Most of you come from communities where society didn't spit on you, they smiled on you and made sure you had the basics to be successful. But pointing the finger at poor people is easy. It takes no reflection, no courage and no intelligence. So have at it.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of all subsidized housing for anyone not disabled or elderly. It's had the effect of creating a large underclass that's become just a huge liability for everyone else. Three generations of welfare are enough; each generation gets dumber by the year.
ReplyDeleteAs the woman says they don't do this to Lincoln Park residents. Well when you have a job and pay full price for your rent you aren't at the mercy of taxpayers who foot the bill for you to live practically free in a great city. I personally think you should have to pass a drug test and a criminal background check to live in CHA. To get reduced rent is not a right, it is a privilege that is extended to people who need and appreciate a helping hand.
ReplyDeleteand by the way in response to the comment posted that people don't have to pee in a cup to get tax breaks, well I have to pee in a cup in order to keep my job so I can be a functioning part of society and pay my way and pay taxes that help those who find it disgraceful to be drug tested thank you very much. Poor is not an excuse for poor behavour and poor moral compasses. So quit with the excuses and start with the accountability.
ReplyDeleteWell would you look at that... it's the Million Hood Rat March! These ungrateful bastards will rally and rant about anything. Let there be a proposal for Harold's Chicken to be shutdown, and I bet all their evicted sons will start licking shots in the air and looting at the expense of no more 'mild sauce'!
ReplyDeleteElderly and disabled residents should not have to be drug tested, but everyone else, YES! As a matter of fact, I wish they will lower the age to 16 and over. Considering that many of CHA residents get high with their kids and condone them selling drugs anyway. If I had to piss in the cup to keep my job to pay my $1150 rent... why can't you freeloading roaches be piss-tested to keep your $24 rent? In which my over $100 a week deducted tax-dollars are contributing too!
Amazing how the best excuse these f***ing parasites can up with is that they're "being singled out due to economic status"? Wow! I bet you when this proposal goes through, there will be a class-action lawsuit by these freeloaders, trying to once again hit the 'ghetto lottery'! Shameful and very disgusting!
City of Chicago, Thanks for tearing down the projects. Now these LAZY ASS ANIMALS are causing ghetto pandemonium EVERYWHERE!!
Sorry for some of the language I used in my previous post. I am just very pissed off at how these lazy animals will use race as an excuse to rally and rant about anything. It is very sickening and disturbing!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love how ChicagoBreakingNews (and other major media outlets) disabled the comment section on this CHA issue. HA, HA!
"Three generations of welfare are enough; each generation gets dumber by the year."
Very true indeed, Pete!
If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fear...
ReplyDeleteWell, I kinda get their point. Black people don't take drugs, they just sell them to suburbanites and "peeps" on the Norfside.
ReplyDeleteDetroiter's tried this tactic too. Didn't work there either.
I think they need to call on Tyrone (oh, I mean Obama).
Oh, and Reagan planted crack in black neighborhoods in the 80's, so it begs the question .....did Obama plant coke in black neighborhoods now?
ReplyDeleteNo Anonymous@ 4:44 a.m. Little "Herman", yes that was his name, both grew up in the same government subsidized housing outside of Detroit (where Detroiter's fled to make better of themselves. Little Herman was black, I was White. We both graduated from the same high school within 2 years. I made something of myself. Little Herman was in prison at the age of 18 for armed robbery. I had no idea my "neighbors" had guns in their home.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the people in this video don't look very "poor" to me. They're dressed nicely. Poor are the people in the Appalachian Mountains with no shoes, dirty clothes, no electricity, some don't have running water and some STILL have out houses. THAT"S POOR. These people are nothing but freeloaders and look pretty able bodied to me. ANY job is better than NO job. Life is hard for everyone except the top 10% of the country. Otherwise, we all work/worked to support ourselves doing ANYTHING for employment. Hell, I know people who work 3, yes that's THREE, jobs to survive and take NO handouts. If you can work, YOU SHOULD be working and contributing rather than expecting the government/taxpayers to take care of you...PERIOD!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Ms. 4:44: My Mother used the $$ she saved in that government subsidized housing to purchase her own home for cash upon retirement. That unit was not "passed on" to any of us. That beautifully clean townhouse was "passed on" to Herman's parents (because theirs was such a mess).
ReplyDeleteIn addition, Rhonda & Wanda down the street (black), got full grants to Wilberforce while I paid for my own education. I'm certain there wasn't much of a wage disparity between our Mothers.
This was in the early 80's. Nothing has changed in 30 years.
And you're 110% correct, Towanda. There's a major "establishment" here that has freebies in exchange for your contributions to this "charity". Not that it's not legit (personally, I think it's a major tax write-off for them) but I refuse to accept an invitation to another one of these events until I know WHO these contributions are going to. I quite already know.
ReplyDeleteThere are white people suffering too. I know of white families that have off'd themselves and their children because they have lost their jobs/homes/everything! Brings to light that saying "white people kill themselves/black people kill each other".
It's a new day in America. You have a black president. I'm glad we have a black president. You can point fingers to him.
IF you're poor and getting money from the government you shouldn't be able to afford drugs. And if you are getting my tax dollars anything you own should be property of the government until you reimburse the tax payers.
ReplyDeleteBasically they went to live free and clear create a hell hole wherever they go and blame everyone else
