Bike stolen near Uptown Jewel food store, man arrested


Around 8:23 p.m., a bike was stolen near the Uptown Jewel grocery store at 4355 North Sheridan Road, near Sheridan and Montrose.

A man identified as a police officer or a security guard, reported the theft.

The bike thief was described as a black man wearing a red hat and black pants. He was last seen headed southbound on Broadway Street.

Police apprehended the alleged offender at Broadway and Buena, at 8:26 p.m.

According to police dispatch, the stolen property was returned to the victim.

    A good lock, not a chain, would have prevented this. This isn't the 1960's when we left our doors unlocked or just hopped off our bikes and dashed in somewhere and our bike was still there when we came out. Hope this person learned a lesson here:)

  2. T., in Arizona, some people leave their bikes in their driveways and their doors unlocked, all the time.

    Coming from Chicago, I don't understand how anyone can be that relaxed around strangers.

  4. The faster to get away when he robs someone else or maybe he just rides by someone and yanks their Iphone/IPod right out of their hands and he's off.
