Alleged brawl, fight at Humboldt Park Puerto Rican festival

On Friday, June 17, 2011, there was a huge brawl at Humboldt Park, 1400 North Sacramento Avenue, said Second City Cop readers.

According to the comments left on the Chicago police blog, a massive fight erupted during the Puerto Rican festival.

"(A) citywide 10-1 (officer distress call) just ordered at Humboldt Park. Gas teams are being called. Reports coming in that 400 to 700 people are fighting in the park, with larger crowds trying to join in. They are sending us up there right now," said an apparent Chicago police officer.

The alleged officer's comments were posted Friday around 9:11 p.m., and seems to coincide with our news report highlighting a purported brawl at 1506 North Washtenaw Avenue.

According police dispatch, Friday, around 9:44 p.m., a large group of women from the Humboldt Park Puerto Rican festival, were fighting in the streets in front of the Washtenaw address.

NOTE: We spoke to seven people who were there, at various times throughout the day. None of them are aware of any fights. No one saw large groups of people fighting.

    This has been going on for years. Massive gang fights as a way to observe their heritage?
    The south side Irish parade was disbanded by it's own hosts due to excessive drinking. Maybe this annual riot should be also be disbanded.
    People, and groups, make their own reputation through their actions. That's why there's always something to stereotypes.

    Really 400-700 people brawling? I find it hard to believe. With thay many fighting there would all kinds of videos, news coverage, etc. about it Don't believe everything you read.

    I live in Humboldt Park, near Washtenaw, I can assure you 700 people were not fighting. If that was the case riot police would have canvassed the area.

    I love Second City Cop and have huge respect for the police, but there are some commenters on SCC for whom three black or Hispanic people walking together is the first step to Sharia law....

    Unbelivable on how people can fabricate and exagerate rumors about a brawl breaking out last night in the Humboldt Park festivities. Not true, there was also a rumor that three people got killed in the park last night. Haven't heard anything on the news.

    it's always some "race" talking about another person's race. The most hipocritical people i know. When will they realize they are no better then anyone else. I live around humbolt park, people are exaggerating and always looking for something to talk about. Maybe there wouldn't be so much violence if we all came together instead of puting the lower class and middle class down, give a hand.

    I hate this time of month... I never go to that crap, there are way to many gangs and they never consider the fact that they may harm someone innocent... I think they really need to just stop having it.

    I spoke to somebody today who lives near North Ave and Sawyer. She wasn't as concerned as I would have been that her cat has been RUN OVER AND KILLED by the traffic surge that happened on Saturday. And, she was less concerned than I would have been that there were hundreds of people moving in a group down to the park, clearly with less than good intentions. She said she saw tear gas canisters shot out at certain members/areas of this crowd. I didn't see it, but living a couple of blocks from the park I believe it. There are a lot of complete animals there, especially on Saturday. Next year I am going to get a tent and sell Ibuprofin, cotton balls and ear plugs so that the headaches caused by thousands of cars incessantly honking their horns all day and night long can be reduced.

    Did anyone happen to see or video record the incident of the police arresting a black woman and her mentally disabled son for video tapping? On Sat June 18th 2011 around 9pm
