Police never identified the store where the theft occurred.
The crook was described as a black man with a bald or shaved head, twenty to thirty-years-old, and 5’9” to 5’10”.
The thief was last seen wearing a blue plaid shirt, no jacket, blue jeans, and a large square-shaped diamond earring in one of his ears.
Approximately thirty minutes before the watch was stolen, police followed nine black teenagers from the Water Tower Place.
An officer observed two male suspects and seven female suspects behaving suspiciously.
The officer last saw the group walking westbound on Chicago Avenue, towards Wabash, around 7:11 p.m.
Well it's about fricking time the cops are keeping an eye on large groups of black kids. Clearly they are only down there to rob the retail stores and innocent people who actually pay for their stuff. Keep "hawking" them and they might just get the message that the cops and stores are on to them. I'd sure be curious to know what these kids parents think when they come home with stuff and had no money to buy it? Now all the city has to do is change the loitering laws and enforce curfew. Wow, what a concept!

Bottom line: Young ghetto African American thugs are the culprits of loitering and theft on Michigan and State street shops. So what? If it's true, why can't it be said? Do you see rowdy groups of Asians and Hindus ripping off these shops? No. The police need to heavily monitor the red line el, especially on the weekends. That's when these thugs arrive. They exit at the Chicago stop between the hours of 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. If they desire more entertainment, they loiter, harass, and hurt innocent victims. Ask Loyola University's Water Tower Campus. We've all been placed on high alert due to the severity of these incidents. The moment that police see groups of these ghetto thugs on Michigan Avenue, State Street, or even stepping off of the red line - the cops need to harass them and advise them to hit the road. That's it. What are you doing here? Leave. Get the f*** out. Get back on the red line and go back to the ghetto. Something to that effect. What's the problem? Retailers make it too easy. There's too many reports of stealing...When are they captured? These thugs go home, tell their friends how easy it was, and how easy it is to steal from people downtown...and more jump on the bandwagon. I was caught shoplifting when I was 16. I was embarassed, handcuffed, interrogated and thrown in a cell for 4 hours before my parents picked me up. That is an appropriate punishmnent. Why can't these retailers hire additional security to follow these thugs until they leave? Police and security should be a thorough annoyance. Actually, security should be at all entrance points to even prohibit these mobs from entering. These are the same cowardly, rowdy, ignorant sh*ts who accuse society of keeping them down...when they're too blind to see that they've made poor decisions. They are cowards with poor excuses for parents who fail to reprimand or punish them suitably for their actions. These parents are the same parents who can't afford to provide their children with good educations or a strong moral compass....yet they continue to have more children...and expect other people to support them. Yet, at the end of the day, they still insist that they are treated unfairly. If they don't contribute to society, why should they even be entitled to an opinion? Thus, the cycle continues. If small suburbs can get away with profiling, why can't Chicago? Chicago is a diverse city indeed. That is what makes Chicago a wonderful city. However, diversity shouldn't go hand in hand with crime. I've written letters to the 42nd ward alderman, the River North and Gold Coast Neighbor's Associations, and the McDonald's corporate office. McDonalds!! UGH!! For an establishment that promotes and boasts about their charitable efforts and "doing the right thing" - it's painfully obvious that they have made a crappy unsubstantial effort to tell loiterers to hit the road. Yet, they have robbers hiding in their bathrooms and continue to allow these thugs off the red line to loiter all hours of the night. Why don't they just give them free food? It's embarassing as their target audiences are children and families. Yet, I'm afraid to walk down Chicago Avenue after night classes...It's sick.

If we can spend billions of dollars fighting terrorism overseas, we should be able to pay our first responders more money and put more cops on the streets.

Anonymous RIGHT ON! I have been saying the very same things for a while now and I don't give a crap who it offends. Someone has to say it. Screw "PC" it's overrated anyway. These people/parents know exactly who we are talking about and they probably don't care what their children do. I am so sick of the ghetto thugs I could scream. I am from here and have NEVER seen it so bad. I'm tired of their excuses for all their failures. Poverty is not to blame, their choices are to blame. their parents are to blame. the "spreaders" are to blame, the "planters" are to blame and a lack of education is to blame.. Start holding these loser fathers accountable for supporting their OWN children...if they even know who the father is. We need more cops NOW and 200 isn't going to cut it. If we can send OUR national guard over to Iraq and everywhere else to HELP THEM out, than we sure as hell can put them on the streets of Chicago to help us out. These ghetto thugs are a complete waste of oxygen. They are running amok in this city and the new mayor better start protecting the innocent citizens the day he takes office. The old mayor seems to have lost interest in doing that. I don't care if these ghetto thugs call their ACLU buddies, I don't care if they scream civil rights violations, I don't care if they scream racism. They have brought it ALL on themselves! Today, while riding the 147 bus down Michigan Ave, I saw what was a pleasant site..4 Police officers walking DOWN Michigan Ave. Plus, there's an article in the Trib about the north side being placed on high alert because of these ghetto thugs prowling and preying on the businesses and people in that area. It serves these ghetto thugs right, if you can't play nice...than take your BALLS and go home..we don't want you among us! You're privileges have been revoked. TA TA

ReplyDeleteFierce police presence at the ghetto attracting Mickey D's on Chicago Ave. near the Red Line this Saturday. There's still an abundance of Chicago tolerated loitering there though. The po-po are lined up giggling and chatting with each other all in a row. Couldn't help but notice that the police themselves need to disperse and learn the simple term "move along". I'm sure their hands are tied with the Lakefront Liberal pan-handler ordinance you all know and love.

ReplyDeleteMacDonalds seems to have become a haven for the homeless, drunks, druggies and panhandlers. Their corporate office needs to step to the plate and clean their stores up. The CPD needs to send a clear message with added presence that this behavior and the large groups of ghetto thugs are not welcomed in that area. Follow them around, let them know they're being watched. Make them move. Check their ID's for warrants and curfew violations. Do nothing and the city just loses one of their money makers.
