Police: Child badly burned in Belmont-Cragin neighborhood - may be child abuse

Police are investigating what might be a horrific case of child abuse on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

At 8:14 p.m., authorities were called to an address near the intersection of West Fullerton and North Long Avenues, which is approximately 2400 North Long in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood.

Medical staff at the scene were reportedly treating a 7-month-old child who had been allegedly burned with hot water, said police.

Information obtained by Chicago News Report indicates the child sustained third-degree burns to the face.

At the time of this report, the baby was being treated at Comer Children’s Hospital. Because of the severity of the child’s injuries, medical staff were preparing to transfer the baby to Loyola University Medical Center’s burn unit.

Police are investigating the incident as a case of child abuse, said one source.

  1. It is so sad to me when children become victims and parents(?) don't give it a second thought to hurt them. Anyone for that matter that hurts a child is nothing but pure evil! I hope, if it is child abuse, this parent goes to jail for a long time. The child will be better off. Just tragic!

  3. Until children are viewed as mini-adults, "nothing" will change, because children are viewed as "property". :(
