Man hit in the head with a bat at North Side Rogers Park park

A man was struck in the head with a baseball bat on Chicago’s North Side.

The crime happened around 5:20 p.m. at Paschen Park at 1932 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.

Authorities said the victim was attacked by several men near a basketball court at the park.

The offenders were last seen leaving the scene in a white Suburban traveling westbound on Lunt, then southbound on Ridge Avenue.

The suspect accused of striking the victim in the head with the bat, was described as a male Hispanic wearing a black t-shirt with gold letters on it and a hat.

At 5:37 p.m., police apprehended a male Hispanic suspect at Warren Park, 6601 North Western Avenue. Authorities believe the detained suspect may have been involved in the attack at Paschen Park.

Information regarding the victim’s condition and a motive for the assault, were not immediately available.

  1. I think this might be considered "West Rogers Park" but am not sure. The area around Warren Park has beautiful homes, is well kept up and generally quiet. Have we raised an entire generation of thugs? The future is not looking too good if that's the case. In all my years in this city, I have NEVER seen so much disrespect for human life and property, NEVER seen the cruelty and brutality that I see these bottom feeders inflicting on each other and innocent citizens. NEVER seen such a complete lack of manners and ambition. It's easier to beat the shit out of someone and steal their belongings than to get a job...Ops, I forgot, that is their full time job.

  2. Towanda, you're right. Warren Park is west of Ridge Ave., but the actual crime occurred at Paschen Park, which is east of Ridge.

Trust me, I don't want to get beat up again for confusing West Rogers Park with Rogers Park. :-)

  3. Two guys in the white suburban also attached a man with bats at 5:15 pm at 1500 W Lunt at Greenview Ave. I attempted to intervene and called 9-1-1. The guys were quite annoyed that I tried to stop them from beating someone up. After a brief argument with me, the guys got back in the suburban and headed west on Lunt... apparently on to attack someone else. The tolerance of thuggish behavior in our neighborhood is SO disheartening.

  4. Anonymous@12:15...BRAVO to you for at least trying to prevent this crime. More residents NEED to stand up and take their streets back. Looking the other way only perpetuates the problem. "Aping" "See no evil, Speak no evil, Hear no evil" doesn't work!

  5. It looks like someone evoked a reaction by flashing a sign. In response, a few thugs were happy to demonstrate the consequences. Paschen Park is relatively quiet. What stinks is all that it takes is an ignorant teenager to walk down your block and flash a gang sign at the wrong time.

  7. Tentative date for a neighborhood meeting to further discuss this and "problem solve" with the police is Monday, April 25 at Paschen Park Field House (probably around 7 pm).

Please attend. If you don't live in the immediate area, please make sure your block club is active and informed AND if you don't have one, please organize one.

This crime was very specifically gang related. Latin Kings looking for Gangster Disciples. If you live in the area, please call in all graffiti to 311 to be removed as soon as you see it. Sadly, these disputes between rival gangs seem to be a regular Spring "thing." Fortunately, if neighbors responded actively, that's the end of it. Unfortunately, there are always "new recruits" to gangs (some who are just loosely affiliated) who don't have a sense of which neighbors have active and concerned residents. Overall, these types of incidents have seen a drastic reduction over the last 5 years.
