When I was downtown Sat, enjoying the weather, the people and just the city, I must have passed at least 15 panhandlers, some looked homeless, others not so much and most of them black. There were some who really needed help, those in wheelchairs, older people. The point is, we are not taking care of THOSE who REALLY need the help. Others just panhandle to get their booze and drug money. I will give a buck to the man in the wheelchair or the elderly lady I see wandering around, BUT, the rest? Forget about it. Some of them look like they will beat the crap out of you and I guess they will. There are not enough cops in the world to protect us from the evil lurking around.
ReplyDeleteI hope they catch this angry homeless man and put him on a psych ward somewhere. I also hope the victim will be ok though what stuff like this does to a persons psyche takes far longer to heal.
The downtown and Near North area have been plagued with these homeless bums for years who parasitize off the regular people there. There should be a cleanup of this nasty bunch. The majority are not just some working people down on their luck but are career vagabonds who are ex-convicts with long rap sheets, drug users and sex offenders. The person who nearly killed the unsuspecting immigrant in Grant Park with a tree branch a few weeks ago was one of these so-called homeless people. People should be able to go about their business without being accosted by this filth. I and most others have lost all sympathy as they are there by choice and can be dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI second that, Pete
