Shooting at Chicago, Austin neighborhood house party, several injured, 1 possibly dead

A midnight “shots fired” call sent police racing to a West Side Chicago address.

Several people were shot at an Austin neighborhood house party at 5941 West Thomas Street near the intersection of Thomas and Mason.

A woman who was shot approximately three times, was taken to Loretto Hospital by a friend or family member.

Police said two more people were shot at the party, but the victims weren’t at the scene when officers arrived.

Subsequent reports indicate the other shooting victims were taken in separate ambulances to Mount Sinai and Loyola Hospital.

Authorities said a male victim was shot in the chest and arm. His condition was not disclosed.

The shooter, who was apparently at the party, was described as an African-American man, approximately 19 to 20-years-old, 5’7’ to 5’8”, and about 130 to 140 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black skull cap.

At 12:40 a.m., police sources suggested one of the shooting victims was possibly dead.

  1. With West Suburban Medical Center nearby, why were the shooting victims taken to such distant hospitals?

  2. Good question. Chicago Breaking News has the same information. A victim was also taken to Stroger hospital.

The shooting victim at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, was a 17-year-old boy. He was shot in the face and died at the hospital.

  5. ebbi,
If you were there, What the hell happened? Why can't people "play" nice anymore?

What a senseless tragedy and why, because someone looks at you the wrong way or says something you don't like so you pull out an ILLEGAL gun and start shooting? How totally PATHETIC!
