Jody Weis is gone, Terry Hillard is back in, search for next Chicago police superintendent is on

Will Rahm Emanuel’s decision to let Weis go, come back to haunt him?

Unable to extend his expired contract, Jody Weis left his post as Chicago police superintendent, Tuesday. The former FBI agent who never seem to connect with the rank and file, spent the last three years trying to overhaul the Chicago Police Department.

In a surprising twist, out-going-mayor, Richard M. Daley, appointed former police superintendent Terry Hillard, who retired in 2003, to temporarily take the reigns until Rahm Emanuel takes office in May.

While Weis’ departure has made a lot of Chicago police officers very happy, many African-American aldermen and residents in high-crime areas, are sad to see Weis go.

Citing a reduction in police corruption and fewer cases of police brutality, several black Chicago aldermen made it clear they believe Weis was doing a good job. Furthermore, they were looking forward to the former Top Cop reassigning police officers in lower crime areas, to so-called underserved police districts.

Patricia Van-Pelt Watkins, who made an unsuccessful bid for mayor, told Elizabeth Bracket of Chicago Tonight, “I’m sad to see Weis gone. I really felt he was doing a good job in bringing the murders down, and the complaints against police were down. We lost something when we lost Weis.”

After visiting several news sites and perusing their comments section, it appears many Chicagoans fear the CPD will returned to their "old way of doing business", which involves “beating, robbing, and extorting” citizens, said one commenter.

Those Black Alderman believe that, which ironically contradicts the reports on SCC, here and scanners.

    Watkins is nuts. :)

Most likely, the criminals and/or their families/friends are issuing these comments. :|
