Loop Hit & Run: Two Women Critically Injured

Around 7 p.m., two women, believed to be in their fifties, were hit by an SUV on the 100 block of South State Street in downtown Chicago.

The driver of the SUV struck the women and kept going.

Both hit and run victims were taken to Northwest Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

According to CBS Chicago news, the offending vehicle was described as green and beige with heavy front-end damage.

  1. What the hell? What is the speed limit downtown? Has anyone noticed that since the introduction of these high tech cell phones there are far more accidents on CITY streets? We're not talking the Stevenson here. I NEVER cross the street, even with the light, unless I check both ways first. There are way to many people out there NOT paying attention.

  2. Towanda, I have an extreme fear of crossing streets.

When I was in high school, I saw a classmate get run over by two cars, while trying to catch a bus.

She was struck by a car going westbound that knocked her into the eastbound lane, where she was struck a second time and killed.

That image is permanently etched in my brain. :-(

  3. WOW Timothy, that's pretty traumatic:( Like I've "said" before, it's too bad there isn't an off switch for the "projector" in our minds.

  4. From that day forward, I take my time and look both ways before I step into the street. If cars are approaching the intersection, I wait for them to stop BEFORE I cross. If a driver doesn't make eye contact with me, I wave my hands until they see me.

People have teased me for being overly cautious when crossing the street, but I couldn't care less.

  7. Anonymous, thank you for sharing that information. I have seen people hit by cars before. It's very traumatic.

The driver was a woman? Did you see her face? Can you describe her?

  8. I was also there. The two fifty-ish women were crosing the street on the crosswalk, on a walk signal when this SUV cam barreling down the road, running the red light- the driver looked like a young woman. The SUV hit them extremely hard, the thuds were loud and audible, both of them flew a little and were laying unconcious on the road. The SUV kept driving. Myself and a bunch of other witnesses tried to flag the SUV down, and get it to stop, but it didn't. PLEASE PLEASE pray for these two innocent victims. They are both still in critical condition. And please everyone, use EXTRA caution when crossing a busy intersection, even if you have the walk signal.

    Peace and love

  9. Almost every year, there is at least one hit and run downtown. Sometimes, the drivers are young. Often, they are too old.

towanda & Timothy: I agree! I only cross at traffic light crosswalks, after I carefully scan the intersection. If I don't feel I should cross, I await the next light.

  10. If the "SUV" was an Escalade (as reported in another source) or another GM model, it could have been traced via Onstar (well, that's IF the Chicago police had the time to do it) but........we KNOW how chicago HATES those "American" vehicles, and obviously for a reason. This would not have happened in downtown Detroit......AND if it did, they'd have the perps stopped dead in their tracks before they hid out at granmammy's house.

Illegal immigrant? Unlicensed driver (almost applauded in Chicago for the sake of the almighty $$$)? Uninsured? Five different surnames? Three different addresses? JUST GO! FLOOR IT!
