Florida --- I don't care what touchy-feely-psychiatrists and weak ineffectual parents say, Ronda Holder of Tampa Bay, Florida, is a shining example of proactive parenting.
When Holder's 15-year-old son, James W. Mond III, failed to improve his grades, the Florida mom found an unconventional way to get her son's attention.
Holder said taking away her son's phone privileges and other conventional forms of punishment didn't make her son take his grades seriously. And when the 15-year-old troubled student refused to complete an exam, his frustrated mother forced him to stand on a Florida street corner wearing a rather embarrassing sign.
The sign reads: My name is James W. Mond III. I did 4 questions on my F-CAT and said I wasn’t going to do it! GPA 1.222. Honk if I need and [sic] education. |
Glenton Gilzean saw the teenager bashfully carrying the sign and has offered to tutor the boy. Hopefully, if Mond is struggling with a learning disability, Gilzean, who runs a tutoring and mentoring program for at-risk teens, will help Mond improve his grades.
My two cents: Too many parents are more concerned with their childrens' feelings, when they should be focused on their wellbeing. Our prisons and cemeteries are full of people whose parents gave up on them and looked the other way while they spiraled out of control.
Ronda Holder deserves a great big hug!
I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE REPORTED THIS WOMAN FOR TRYING TO HELP HER CHILD. THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH KIDS TODAY. TOO MANY PEOPLE WANT YOU TO LET YOUR KIDS RUN OVER YOU!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFirst, kudos to the mom for caring about her kids education and second, kudos to the kid for standing there and taking his punishment.
ReplyDeleteI do feel sorry for him. He looks so pitiful, but some lessons in life are painful.
ReplyDeleteAt least His MOM is trying to teach the kid something! better than him ending up in freaking JAIL or JOBLESS in the future, LMAO SO FUNNY, but i give the MOM THE SUPPORT BIG PROPS TO HER!!!LIKE IF U AGREE WITH ME, IF U DONT GO COMMENT SOMEWHERE ELSE cuz i wont care, PEOPLE SO FREAKING sensitive, SOME KIDS just dont learn the easy way,i respect the moms decision, she know her child mentality best!
ReplyDeleteAll I gotta say is, "honk, honk."
ReplyDeleteBetcha, he'll think twice before turning in a test with only 4 questions completed. I'll put money on that.
Dude, I hope this kid is doing better now. Poor guy does indeed look troubled but, seriously? How many mothers today would actually care enough to help their child with education?
ReplyDeleteYeah this was a year ago, I wonder if CNR (or Fox Tampa) can do a follow up?
ReplyDeleteLike Timothy said, the kid does look pathetic, and it is easy to feel for him. However, good for the mom, I hope the kid learned his lesson and started taking things more seriously. Because he is far better off having to stand wearing that sign, than he would be in the near future getting a mugshot taken for some violent act he committed.
If he doesnt do better in school he can consider standing on the corner holding a sign 'job training'
