Man Falls on CTA Tracks in Edgewater; CTA Train Derails in Rogers Park

A man fell on the CTA Red Line train tracks at the Edgewater, Berwyn “L” station at 1121 West Berwyn Avenue.

The incident was reported at 3:39 a.m.

Reportedly, the man was bleeding from the head, and several people were trying to pull the man back onto the platform.

Police dispatch also said a wheelchair was stuck on the tracks.

Seconds later, a CTA train derailed at the Rogers Park, Howard "L" station at 7519 North Paulina Street. According to one source, car number 2647 is the car that slipped off the tracks.

At least three CTA passengers sustained minor injuries after the Red Line train derailed.

  1. The Berwyn stop seemed to be in the headlines a lot last "year". Weren't there a couple people killed on the tracks there? There is an area at that stop that is pretty narrow and dangerous. Surely the CTA is aware of this?! But, maybe, like the lack of an security on the trains, they don't seem to care about the safety of their riders...the people who pay their salaries!

  2. towanda, several people have been killed by trains at that stop. I guess someone is waiting for a certain number of people to be killed before something is done.

  3. Generally speaking, American Society is reactive, not proactive. Three local examples of this include: a downtown theater fire (1900), 'Our Lady of the Angels' fire (1955) and 'E2' (2003). :(
