  1. Uptown seems to be the new "south side" with all the crime going on there. There was just another shooting there where 2 people were shot. This comes after the drug raid and the shooting death a couple weeks ago. As I've said before, there are way too many SRO'S, SEC8's, shelters and low income housing in that neighborhood. Far more than ANY neighborhood in the city. Their Alderman, Shiller, doesn't care. I hope the new Alderman Uptown gets will focus on cleaning up the crime there. The neighbors of Uptown are doing their best to endure and help the CPD. They are very involved in their neighborhood but I think it's too overwhelming and people will move out as well as businesses. The new Alderman will have their hands full cleaning up Uptown. Too bad Shiller let it get this bad. It's a great neighborhood with great potential. See, I think the deal is, the more SRO'S, SEC8's shelters and low income housing there is in a neighborhood, the more TIF she got. It's was always about the money to Sheller. What a legacy she leaves...NOT!

  2. Towanda, Uptown is the new north side ghetto. Believe me, it's going to get worse. Just wait until next summer. I have seen this time after time, and the ending is NEVER pretty.

I ruffled a lot of people's feathers when I told UU's readers a brand new shiny Target store was not going to save Uptown. I pissed a lot of people off when I told them they can call the cops until they are blue in face, but the crime is going to get worse.

    I WAS RIGHT!

Most of Uptown's residents have NEVER dealt with the level of violence that is emerging in that neighborhood. So they have no idea what they are up against.

  3. When I heard about the new Target, my first thought was it's going to get robbed blind. At least the low income housing above target has good management that screens the applications really well. On the other hand, grandma's and grandpa's move in and the grandkids sneak in. One of the solutions is to spread all those SRO's, SEC8, shelters and low income housing around the CITY so they are not so concentrated in Uptown. The other solution is to hold the landlords, including the CHA, responsible for their tenants. Maybe a new Alderman will get on it. Again, gangs are the problem and since gangs have illegal weapons and deal drugs, fricking go after them and shut them down! What the hell is the problem with doing that? One massive sweep and many will be on a cot with 3 squares and off the streets. The CPD, mayor and alderman NEED to send a message to these ghetto thugs that they are not welcomed. What's everybody waiting for? They just rounded up a group, kudos to the CPD for that one, BUT there are many many more to go!

  4. Towanda, there is a whole other side of that story that I can't discuss here. But I get what you are saying and I agree 100%!!!!!!
