New Year's day, January 1, 2011, at least ten cars' tires were slashed in a free unsupervised parking lot in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. The incident happened around 7 a.m. at 3012 North Broadway Street, where Dominick's Finer Foods used to be.
I have been told there are no cameras in the lot and so far, no witnesses have been located.
Several years ago, developers announced plans to build a 53-unit condo and another Dominick's at the site where the old store burned down. Five years later, the lot is still empty and considered an eyesore in the Lakeview community.
Further proof that there is never any truly "Free" parking in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteChicago style justice??
ReplyDeleteSo what happened to at least reopening a grocery store at this location sans million dollar condos? I'm sure this has been a boom for Treasure Island down the street over the last couple years. Maybe TI burnt it down to increase business after they almost went out of business a few years ago when they experienced that extended power outage and lost all of their perishable products.
ReplyDeleteIt's really odd that such a bustling neighborhood would have a vacant lot for such a long period of time. Usually, that sort of thing only happens in economically repressed areas on the south and west side of Chicago.
ReplyDeletemaybe this is someone's way of saying don't park here! :-)
ReplyDeleteIs Dominick's truly returning or is this a public relations stunt?
ReplyDeleteAccording to the grocery store covenant law, if Dominick's isn't returning, then another grocery store must buy the site.
I'm rather dismayed as to why Tom Tunney isn't on this. He's generally on top of things like this in his ward.
