Sun-Times Readers Have No Sympathy for Last Cabrini-Green Resident, Annie Ricks

Annie Ricks. Picture: Chicago Sun-Times.

54-year-old Annie Ricks has lived in Cabrini-Green’s 1230 North Burling Street building for 21 years. Now Ricks, her three sons, her daughter, and grandson, are being “forced” to move to another CHA housing site.

"I don’t feel good. They’re forcing me to move somewhere I don’t know anything about," Ricks said to a reporter.

The Chicago Sun-Times spun a sad tale of a helpless woman being evicted by the big, bad Chicago Housing Authority; but if the comments left in response to their article is any indication of the public’s opinion, Ricks’ sob story has fallen on death ears.

Here’s what Chicago Sun-Times' readers had to say about Annie's dilemma:

  • "They" are forcing her to move somewhere she doesn't know anything about? There are 3 generations of her family living there, how about getting a job and choosing where to live? Ah, the American way!

  • What a laugh. This idiot actually wants to stay in this cesspool of crime and poverty. No doubt, an Obama voter who was suckered into thinking Barack would save her. How about this; get a job and get a life. Forget waiting for government to bail you out

  • Annie is not being forced to do anything. She can rent an apartment anywhere int he city or even buy a condo or a house. She is complaining that her choice of apartments for $150 a month is more limited than before. Too bad. Go to something called work, get a strange thing called a paycheck and do what you want. Most have done exactly that for years.  Time for freeloaders to be unloaded.

  2. Plus, the CHA moves her for FREE! Raise your hand IF YOU get someone to move YOU for FREE! Just research why these and all other low income/SEC8 housing was built..I'll give you a hint, it was TO HELP PEOPLE get on their feet...21 years later and neither her or her other 2 generations are on their feet? Freeloaders, that's what they are. Don't blame Obama, he wasn't a household name 21 years ago. Blame the cities who don't keep check of their CHA/low income residents. Bet when she got that place (when it was nicer than it ended up) SHE was the ONLY one to apply. And keep them out of my neighborhood because we NEED street repair, better schools, more police and on & on. They just suck us dry and than want more and more! It's NEVER enough! GET A LIFE, GET A JOB AND GET A PAYCHECK! START CONTRIBUTING! 21 Years seems more than enough time to do that!

  3. That's so compassionate and intelligent telling a 70 year old disabled woman to go get a job, buy a condo, and support three generations of people...

The people on the internet are so stupid. I guess the information age has taught us nothing.
