As far as the residents of one southeast Chicago neighborhood are concerned, bullets and birds don't mix.
The Chicago police department wants to build a 2.5 million dollar outdoor shooting range on the 2000 block of East 134th Street. The firing range would be equipped with office and storage space, and the 33-acre facility would be built using "seized" drug money.
Conservationists oppose the range, because the shooting would frighten the birds who visit Hegewisch Marsh, a nearby nature sanctuary.
Based on what I have been hearing, the police department isn't sympathetic to the conservationists' cause.
