A couple, described as a Hispanic man and a Hispanic woman, sought the assistance of a CTA employee after they fell prey to a violent crime.
The victims approached the CTA employee at the Belmont/Kimball Blue Line, 3355 West Belmont, around 2:58 a.m. The pair told the employee they had been pistol whipped and carjacked.
The thief or thieves stole a red, four-door, 2010 Ford Focus at gunpoint. Around the time the car was stolen, a 911 caller heard shots fired near the intersection of West Logan Boulevard and North Francisco Avenue. Police believe this location is where the vehicular hijacking occurred.
Around 3:11 a.m., after a short police car chase, officers stopped the stolen Ford Focus on the 3100 block of West George Street.
No injuries were reported.
