Man with Knife Killed by Gary Indiana Police

On Wednesday, October 27, 2010, Gary police responding to 911 calls regarding a man threatening people with a knife - shot and killed the suspect.

The shooting took place on the 4300 block of Virginia Street, around 8 p.m.

Police say they asked the man several times to drop his weapon. When he ignored the officers commands and lunged at them, the man was shot and killed.

The offender was known to officers within the Gary police dept., but the responding officers were not familiar with the suspect.

Police records indicate authorities were at the knife-wielding suspect's home on Tuesday, for a similar incident.
