Arlington Heights Says No to Mentally Ill Neighbors

In a move that probably has the the late, great Mr. Rogers spinning in his neighborly grave, Arlington Heights has rejected a proposal to build housing for mentally ill residents.

The Daveri Development Group, who has teamed up with Thresholds, wants to build a 30-unit complex at 120 and 122 E. Boeger Road in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Citing zoning issues, the village denied the request to the build the facility.

The John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Legal Clinic has indicated that if Arlington Heights Village Board members don't change their minds, they are prepared to sue on behalf of Daveri Development.

Some Arlington Heights residents say they are concerned, because the housing would include people who suffer from bipolarism and schizophrenia. They also said the facility would be too close to a nearby daycare center and a high school.

  1. Mr. Fitz, please explain to your readers why "Mr. Rogers would be spinning in his neighborly grave" over the decision to reject this project. I happen to think that Mr. Rogers would have been thrilled with this decision, because it put children and the neighborhood ahead of the greed of a FOR PROFIT property developer.
