Kristin Masterson, Boater Pulled from Lake Michigan: 'I Wasn't Ready to Die'

19-year-old Kristin Masterson, one of the young women rescued from Lake Michigan, recently spoke with CBS News reporter, Mike Puccinelli.

Masterson told the reporter she wasn’t ready to die, and that she stayed strong by thinking about her mother and 8-year-old sister.

Masterson also recalled the last words, still-missing boater, Christopher Gary, said to her. "Float on your back, girl, you can make it," he said.

Christopher Gary is still missing.

Chicago Police Superintended, Jody Weis, made a chilling statement in reference to Gary’s disappearance. “If there is criminal intent in any of this, of course we’ll look that way. But, right now, our focus is on the recovery (not rescue) of the second body.”

  1. I'm glad someone survived but this goes to show that teens show not be allowed on boats without someone who is at least 35! Young people do dumb stuff all the time. This time is cost 2 people their lives.
