Chicago Police Officers Are Weary of being Videotaped


Chicago police officers responding to a 1:46 am call at 7300 S. Halsted were advised that people on the scene were videotaping. The dispatcher told the responding officer to use “caution”.

  1. Of course they don't want to be videotaped! Would you want to be recorded while you were infringing on someone's civil rights?!!!!!!

  2. Well the film won't make the news if the police do something positive. They only film and it's only news worthy if something questionable is on tape

  3. Tedmazola, that's true. There are a lot of really dedicated and caring police officers in Chicago. I remember reading about an officer that used his own money to buy Christmas gifts for a boy who had his toys stolen just before the holiday. That story got very little coverage.

  4. It's an offense in Illinois to videotape cops or politicians. Other criminals are probably OK to shoot with a camera. Lots of good cops, probably a good politician or two if you take time to look, but the bad ones pushed the law through.

    I haven't heard of anyone being prosecuted under that law, but if it hasn't happened yet, it will be sooner or later.
