In defiance of a hip-hop culture that rewards ignorance, violence, and an I-don't-give-a-fuck attitude, Chicago-born rapper, Lupe Fiasco, bravely bared his soul during a July 25, 2012, RapFix Live, MTV interview.
Lupe, whose real name is Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, broke down and cried after watching old footage from his West Side Chicago neighborhood.
Lupe openly wept as he talked about the people, particularly the children, who weren't going to make it out of the ghetto he once called home.
"It's sobering because you know your father was right... your mother was right... yo, you gotta get out", said Lupe. "If you stay here, you gon' die."
To his credit, throughout his career, Lupe has been associated with various charities and foundations.
After watching this video, we started to wonder how many times Minister Louis Farrakhan actually cried for the people in Chicago's rougher neighborhoods.
Oh, well. We're sure Farrakhan will shed a few tears if he gets that multi-million dollar secuirty contract we hear he is trying to get from Mayor Rahm Emanuel - who is absolutely desperate to reduce Chicago's crime stats!

ReplyDeleteThe Red Eye has a great target market here in Chicago for the 20-something transplants and the abundance of those with The Peter Pan Syndrome here. Whenever I see somebody over 30 reading those, I have to laugh. If they are over 40, I want to pray for them.
And what are the cries of "you have to get out" going to solve? Just take the ghetto somewhere else is all it says. I'd have more respect for him if he were trying to do something within those ghettos rather then telling them to "get out".

Let's start with the incredible levels of racism present in these comments. The site's admins must be sleeping at the switch.
Calling a black man a gorilla is a racist term that dates back to slavery where men were considered animals. The term "gorilla" specifically relates to being from Africa, "wild", "exotic" and "scary."
There is also this comment that seems to relate the fact that he is black with literally putting his penis in anything. No common sense. No ability to make judgement. Purely a primal, uncontrollable beast. To the point that he would have sex with an animal. A black person is basically cattle. Save your white women!
We talk about IQs and yet refer to an educated woman by her "tits" and "big ass." She's reduced to nothing but a body either. I mean, she'd have to be...she associated with a black man, right?
This is uneducated on the very base level of racial equality. On a deeper level it shows a completely misguided view on very real issues that exist in Chicago.
