Man shot in West Lakeview

A man was shot in Chicago’s West Lakeview neighborhood on the city’s North Side, said police.

At 11:20 p.m., a 911 caller reported a gang-related shooting near the corner of North Hoyne and West Barry Avenues.

Three minutes later, citizens reported shots fired on the 2100 block of West Belmont Avenue.

Within seconds of second batch of 911 calls, police located a shooting victim in the middle of the 2100 block of West Fletcher Street, between Leavitt and Hoyne.

An unconfirmed source said the victim was shot in the face.

Citing preliminary police dispatch reports, investigators are looking for several male whites or Hispanics.

Authorities are also searching for a white pickup truck that may have been involved in the North Side shooting.

The victim was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in unknown condition.

  1. Technically, that is not Lakeview, that far west. The farthest west boundary for Lakeview is Damen (and some people claim it is Ashland Ave). But either way, that area is either North Center, Roscoe Village, or Avondale, depending on who you ask.

  2. It is definitely North Center, of which, Roscoe Village is a part. Lake View ends at the tracks.

  3. That's Roscoe Village for sure. North Center is north of Roscoe Village.

  4. Yeah it's Kings over there bro! That particular block has a heavy concentration of Hispanics. But that's not West Lakeview at all. More like Roscoe Village. But like the above poster said it depends on who you ask. Any of the long-time residents will definitely say either Roscoe Village or North Center. Any of the recent yuppies that own condos will much rather say its Lakeview or claim Lakeview.

  5. It is actually not Roscoe Village. RV is between Belmont and Addison. That area goes by Hamlin Park Neighbors.

  6. Thats a good neighborhood, some very nice homes on that block, always dog walkers and young families out and about during the day. Unfortunately there's a handful of leftover deadbeats around Hamlin Park.

  7. It was probably the deuces and the project kings going at it with each other. All those deuces do is cause problems for no reason. Even though there not suppose to be at Hamlin park they still manage to hang out in the park all the time. Its sad that a group of low life people can try there best to bring a neighborhood down.

  8. Cops should just put a squad car at Hoyne/Barry from 10pm - 2am. That should resolve any problems.
