Rogers Park home invasion: Woman arms herself with knife, calls police

A woman dialed 911 and armed herself with a knife after she heard a struggle outside her Far North Side, Rogers Park apartment, said police.

At approximately 8:58 p.m., a woman on the 6900 block of North Sheridan Road, near Sheridan and Morse, reported someone fighting outside her apartment door.

The woman allegedly told a 911 operator that she was armed with a knife to protect herself.

While talking with the complainant, the operator heard another woman screaming in the background, said police dispatch.

Investigators said three male blacks, each about 6-feet-tall and dressed in all black clothing, forced their way into an apartment at knifepoint.

However, it's unclear if the men broke into the 911 caller's apartment or an adjacent unit.

Once inside, the intruders stole several laptops and an iPhone, said police.

Authorities said the offenders may have been looking for a man who lives in the apartment.

At 9:35 p.m., a police evidence technician was requested to collect any possible evidence at the scene.

At the time of this report, no injuries were reported and the suspects were still at large.

UPDATE: The offenders may have fled the scene in a white SUV.
