Monday, major service delays were reported at Union Station, 210 South Canal Street, at the height of rush hour.
According to Investigators, the delays were due to signal problems at the station.
Metra's website indicated several rail lines were delayed; some trains were delayed for nearly an hour.
At 6:18 p.m., a concerned passenger called 911 to report "100s of people" jammed in a small boarding area.
The 911 caller reportedly said the situation was a fire hazard.
At 6:24 p.m., officers at Union Station said the crowds were "starting to move along".
However, it's unclear if that meant the delayed trains were starting to make their departures and arrivals.
