Police were called after a citizen spotted a burglar breaking into a basement in Chicago’s Budlong Woods neighborhood on the city’s North Side, said authorities.
According to police dispatch, the incident occurred at approximately 8:28 p.m., in the middle of the 2800 block of West Berwyn Avenue.
A male black offender in a white hooded sweatshirt used a pair of bolt cutters to cut the locks off a unit containing several bikes, said police.
A responding officer said there were “clean cuts” on the locks.
As of 9:12 p.m., there was no indication anything was stolen from the basement and the would-be thief was still at large.
