Lincoln Park North Community Bank robbery

Shortly after noon today, Chicago Police responded to a bank robbery in progress at the North Community Bank, 2335 North Clark Street, in Lincoln Park.

The bank robber was simply described as a man with short hair.

After the robbery, the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene on foot, was last seen going southbound on Clark Street.

The Lincoln Park North Community Bank has been robbed three times in the past three weeks, making it the second-most popular bank heist target in the city this year.

Bank robberies are down significantly in Chicago compared to last year, with just over 60 cases in 2011, compared to 173 last year.

The most frequently-robbed bank in the city this year is the Chicago Community Bank at Lake Street and Wabash Avenue, which has been targeted four times. Two banks are tied for second place, with three robberies each: the Chase Bank at Clark Street and Elm Street and, as of midday today, the North Community Bank in Lincoln Park.

Three bank robberies have also been reported this year in the 3500 block of North Elston Avenue and the 3900 block of West 26th Street. There are multiple banks on this blocks, so it is not possible to determine which banks were victimized.
